End of the Year Teacher Gift Ideas

The school year is winding down!

So, what does this mean?

Well, it means that you will have your kids will be trading in their pencils and school books for flip flops and summer fun. But, before you can do that, you have to take the time to thank the one person or few people that enriched your child’s knowledge this whole year. You don’t have to but, I’m sure that it is much appreciated. Well, what does one get a teacher who probably can run a side business of “Teacher of the Year” mugs? Certainly not a mug!

Here are a few End of Year Teacher Gift Ideas:

Beach Bag Full of Goodies:

Get your child’s teacher ready to kick start summer by making a beach bag ready for a day at the beach! Include glasses, flip-flops, sunscreen and maybe even some Aloe Vera after-sun gel. This is relatively inexpensive as you can get most of the goodies at your local dollar store, also some stores carry flip flops and towels and toiletries for a very low price. I know that Old Navy has great sandals and WalMart carries lots of great summer gear at a great price. The dollar store could be a great place to find a reusable water bottle and sunglasses and even the beach bag itself!

Cost: $10.00 – $15.00

Give a Groupon:

Or any online coupon, you’ve all seen the many great deals you can get online on various sites. You can get your child’s teacher a Mani/Pedi or Mani/Facial or even a gift card so she can choose a way to unwind after an eventful school year. I’ve seen some in my area for about that. Set your budget and if you can’t find a current deal on for pampering, you can always give them a gift card and they can pick out something they want.

Cost: $20.00 – $25.00

A Pot of Love:

You can get your child’s teacher a potted plant, along with a handmade card from his/her student. Nothing like a beautiful flower to brighten up any day! Especially one they can take home to nurture til next year so that they can show it off on their desk.

Cost: $5.00 – $8.00

School Supplies:

Stock up her class for next year or at least give her a head start. Teacher often spend money out of pocket for supplies for their students. Set a budget and go out and buy markers, pencils, glue sticks, crayons, paint brushes, Kleenex, play dough–the sky’s the limit. If you rather not go this route, buy them a Scholar’s Choice gift card so they can buy something they can use in the classroom!

Cost: $15.00 – $20.00

Most importantly, the people who are in charge of teaching our children on a daily basis would appreciate thoughtful words that show appreciation. If you don’t have a budget for a gift, a handmade gift would be beautiful and meaningful. Or simply a letter telling them what kind of difference they make in the lives of your children. Your child can make a card and thank them for what they most enjoyed learning this year.

Do you get your child’s teacher a gift every year?

If so, what do you get them?

Let me know, til then—cheers m’deres!

  1. We do buy a teacher gift for sure – we’ve only been doing it for 2 years as my daughter is in grade 1.
Last year, we went a bit overboard and bought a Chapters GC for quite a bit of $, but we really appreciated what the teacher had done for us and our daughter!

This year, I think I’ll bake a loaf of Homemade bread, wrap it in a tea towel and attach a small gift card.

Last year we had no idea we were supposed to do teacher gifts but now we are wiser. We gave gift cards at Christmas so for the end of the year I think we will do some chocolates or something. We don’t want to go too crazy. Have to watch the budget but still want something special and unique!

Definitely watch the budget, making something is always great! Or even school supplies from your local dollar store can never go wrong!

  3. Love the pot of LOVE! We usually get them a GC

  4. Some excellent ideas here! I’m very drawn to the beach bag full of goodies. It screams have a relaxing and fun summer… Just what teachers deserve after a hardworking 10 months with our littles.

    • Whispered Inspirations says

This is what we are looking for but, I’m still trying to scope out her feet! I’d say go a bit bigger, can’t go wrong. 😀

  5. Thanks so much for this post! This is my first year having to consider the teacher gift and I have no idea what the etiquette is. I’m glad to have some easy and economical ideas to consider!

I’m thinking of giving school supplies as well. Teachers have to do so much themselves that it would be nice to help them!

    • Whispered Inspirations says

I completely agree, a lot of times they pull from their own pockets to provide tons for the kids. This definitely helps.

  7. Ooooooh! LOVE the teacher gift ideas! Another fave for teachers is their own Mabel’s Labels! YES! We teachers love our labels too! Especially for all our awesome school supplies!!

  8. What a fantastic list Nancy! 😀 Never thought of summer vacay gifts, I guess teachers look forward to summer too, hahaha. I’ve always heard that the best gifts are school supplies – to help them from having to spend money out of their own pocket on the children they teach.

    • Whispered Inspirations says

Teachers go above and beyond, sometimes I’m shocked at how much time (and money) they put behind things. 😀

  9. We usually go in on a class gift for the teacher and teaching assistant… it allows us get them a larger, nicer gift than usual. I must say, I really like your ideas, though… very cute!

    • Whispered Inspirations says

That is a really good idea but, not all parents see each other to do this for us. But, definitely A GREAT idea!

    • momvsboys says

yes, totally great idea if you know the other parents, sadly we dont know any of them!.

  10. Call me weird but I don’t get the end of year teacher gifts. Wouldn’t the teacher be overwhelmed with all this STUFF we give them? Though at Christmas I did get her a gift card to Tim Hortons, same for the bus drivers.

    • I used to be a day care teacher and yes, sometimes it is a lot of ‘stuff’, but it’s still nice to be appreciated.

    • Whispered Inspirations says

I don’t think it’s weird but, after a long year I think appreciation rocks. Even if you don’t buy them anything, a card from your little one would be cool I think. Especially how honest our kids are!

      • momvsboys says

ha! so true, kids are so funny and honest a hand written card would be awesome! when I worked in day care a child gave me a valentines card addressed to ‘big Jennifer’ because there was also a Jennifer in the class that was a child. the parents were a little embarassed about it, but I totally got what she was saying and thought it was great!

  11. As a teacher myself, I just love it when I receive school supplies gift, brings me back to the ground that I am here to change the lives of my students for the better through the use of the most basic school supplies, hoping one day one of them turn into the president. 🙂
