We are usually a family who decorates on the first weekend of December, but this year the boys and I wanted to surprise Daddy when he came home from England last week. The Hubster has been traveling a lot, so I took the opportunity and the burden of tackling the whole Christmas decor from the garland, to the lights to the Christmas tree (just bringing the box up from the basement was a chore in itself!). I had a little help from my friends at Command though, who send me over a number of supplies to make my decorating easier. My wall of Christmas Cards. I tie string across the wall, and tape each card to it. Once the first string is full, I start another row. I normally end up with a full wall. It looks beautiful in the end, and it reminds me how many people love me all year long.

I lost my brother to cancer in ’81, and a friend of his gave me a ceramic music box nativity that his wife made at ceramic class. It plays “Away in a Manger” and it’s my single favorite Christmas decoration. It makes me think of my brother, and to remember how much he was loved by so many people.

I have a decoration that holds a little candy for each day before Christmas. I enjoy filling that and hanging it up every year.
It used to be the Advents Calendars for the children when they were young and I can tell you it was a very long night parcelling up 7x 24 little presents. It took me well into the night but the pleasure on their faces on the morning of Dec 1st made it all worthwhile. I’ve cross-stitched advent’s Calendars for each of my children and for 3 of my 5 grandchildren so far, there are another 2 on the way so I’m beginning to doubt that I’ll ever catch up 😉

I have a small glass bird with a gold tinsel tail that clips onto the tree. It’s older than I am and was always the one thing I loved putting on the tree right back into my childhood.
