How to keep your boys busy this summer!

Hi everyone! Thank you for having me, Jennifer!

My name is Kate and I blog over at Songs Kate Sang

I have three children and my 11 and 3 year olds are boys. Summer is coming up fast, and I’d love to share you our family tips to keep from going stir crazy!

For the first few weeks of summer, we have a theme. This has helped me focus all of our excess energy on doing something fun and productive!

Here is how I do it:

Week One – Reading week
Sign up for reading programs at local bookstores and libraries
Practice reading at least thirty minutes each day. If you only make twenty minutes the first day – that’s ok!

Week Two – go outside and get bored week!
I know it sounds tough, but they come up with the most amazing ideas after about ten minutes. I’ve seen them build obstacle courses, forts, water slides, and massive chalk drawings!

Week Three and four are money weeks – they get excited about this one!

We look over the chores they have been expected to do for the past year. We adjust them according to their ages and slightly increase their allowance.
We discuss saving and giving and intentionally practice with a few extra chores that week to earn a little extra.

After week four, summer is almost over and we are in a great routine of reading and playing and saving!

Happy summer everyone, we are almost there!
Kate
