Someday I’m going to marry you

“Mommy?, Will you sleep with me?” my youngest asks as he toddles into the room

Often this is just a good stall tactic at bedtime, but tonight I could see he was in need of some extra cuddles. So I tucked him back under his covers and crawled in behind him.

“Mommy, I’m so in love with you”, whispers a little voice in the dark.

I can’t help but laugh at his choice of words, ‘in love’

“I love you too buddy” I answer

“Cause you’ll always be in my heart” He responds

This is a phrase he picked up about a year ago and uses frequently. And let me tell you, there is nothing that can melt a heart faster than a four year old boy telling you that you’ll always be in his heart.

I give him a big hug and lie quietly for a few minutes.

“Mommy?” he asks

I sigh a little, he’s not quite asleep yet, I guess.

“yeah, buddy?”

“Someday, I’m going to marry you”

And that my friends is why raising boys is so awesome. Because at the end of the day, when all the dirt, noise, mess and smell of little boys is faded away, there’s a small boy with a shy smile and a big heart who loves you so much, he plans to marry his mommy.

  1. Too cute!

  2. I love this. I’m a mom of three boys and my middle son is 6. He is in love with me as well. He always tells me that he can’t be away from me because he loves me too much. Just last week he held my face and asked me to “be mine” and then went to play hockey with his brothers.

Aww, lol, that’s so adorable! Reminds me of my brother when he was little, he would always ask my Mom to marry him. Then, in Kindergarten, at age 5, he found a new girlfriend, got a ring out of a bubble gum machine, proposed to her with the ring, then asked my grandma if they could live there after they got married. She said “no” so he asked the owner of a hotel who my parents knew if they could live there!

  7. Incredibly adorable! Love these tender moments!

  8. So very sweet!! I miss my little boy…they become big boys so quickly.

  9. Oh My goodness! How heart melting was that moment? My 5 year old says the same thing…one day, he’ll marry me….then my husband always responds with, ‘looks like I’ll have some competition.’ It’s the cutest thing in the world. I think having boys rocks!

cute! My middle guy thinks if you kiss, you are married. He floated over and kissed me at the beach the other day and giggled at Daddy that now he was married to me lol then they took turns trying to be the last one to get a kiss in! lol boys are awesome!

  10. This melted my heart! I couldn’t agree more it is tough sometimes living with boys because I often don’t understand them! But, their amazing ability to love and their devotion to me as their mom is simply remarkable. I’m so glad you wrote this down so you can share it with him when he’s much older! 🙂

  11. Boys are so sweet! My four year old says the same kind of things to me too and it just tugs at my heart strings. I love it so much.

  12. This gives me hope for the future. Right now my little guy prefers his dad. This is incredibly sweet.

  13. So so sweet, And yes it is these moments that make up for all of the mess, noise and dirt.

  14. This made my heart melt. I absolutely adore being a mom to a sweet little six year old boy. He tells me every single day that I’m the most beautiful woman on the earth, even in my pyjamas, hugs and kisses me and tells me he can’t get over how good I always smell. It’s incredible. I loved this post.

  15. How adorable, your son obviously loves you so much!

Such a sweet story, makes your heart melt eh? Hope you’re making a note of these sweet episodes, we forget them all too quickly whilst they are growing up. 🙂

That is the sweetest thing ever! I love my boys so much because they are so full of love and give me countless hugs and kisses every day. My 5 year old tells me he loves me at least 10 times a day. I am truly blessed. 🙂

  18. My grown sons are now married and the love for their mother is there but not in the forefront. As the saying goes:

A daughter is a daughter for the rest of your life

A son is a son until he takes a wife

    Awe,I love this

  20. Adorable! I often wonder if parents with only girls have any idea how sweet boys are. And, maybe, girls are just as sweet; I wouldn’t know, as I have 3 little men in my home.

This is so sweet and cute!! Just like kids who say the darnedest things!! LOL I had an only child, a boy who was a delight to raise! He is my joy…. I always wanted a girl to go along with my boy but that just never happened and my son , he had a boy also…my only grandchild. Well can you believe it now…just got news of going to be a GREAT gramma and guess what?!! It’s a Girl!!! I am so excited AND this will be my first Great grandchild also!! Only problem is.. I am here in Canada and they are in Ohio, so it is going to be hard not growing and playing with them often…. I sure do miss my kids!! Nothing like family, but one thing I know is and can look forward to is going home to visit and hold them ALL in my arms over and over every year, and knowing they love their gramma. 🙂
