Have you achieved Wokstar Status?

Cooking an Asian stir fry is actually something I never tried my hand at until a couple of years ago. I’m not sure why, but they seemed to intimidate me when they are actually the easiest dish ever to create!

Rules are literally tossed out the window with stir fries and instead of following a recipe, I now just grab whatever needs using up from the kitchen fridge. Mushrooms, peppers, onions with left over chicken or beef. Maybe grab a can of waterchestnuts or baby corn on the cob from the pantry and dinner is smoking! When it’s time to sauce everything up, I simply grab my favourite Blue Dragon stir fry sauce and I’m all set to go! Some days I spoon it all over a bed of rice, other days noodles. See? Anything goes with stir fry!

sweet and sour

The Broccoli Beef stir fry recipe I shared with you last week, is probably my favourite, but this Sweet and Sour Pork with Rice is such a classic too! The Blue Dragon stir fry pouches are great for servings of two, but if you are making a larger meal, these 350 ml jars are perfect!

  1. I should really stir-fry more but just never really think about it. I have never tried any of the Blue Dragon products but we do love Sweet & Sour sauce so I will have to see if I can find it when I am out shopping.

  2. I do stir fry but I go pretty easy on seasonings, but love all the veggies you can get into kids this way

  3. I make stir fries all the time and I think the wok is the most used pan I have. Its so easy and simple and like you said no recipe required. I tend to take whatever meat we have on hand and throw in what ever veggies i have left or hanging around and add some frozen veggies with sauce. Blue Dragon is the best and I always have tons in my pantry.

I use my wok alot, but I mostly cook Japanese. I have a number of specialty pots and pans for specific dishes. I am wanting to learn more Chinese recipes.

    • I’ve never cooked Japanese before, now that sounds intimidating!

We have a huge Japanese marketplace about an hour from us and I am able to get whatever I want there. It helps that you can buy sauces and packaged mixes. For instance, when I make curry rice, I just need the vegetables (onion, carrots, and potatoes) and whatever meat I want to use and the rest I buy as a roux (looks almost like a fat candy bar). I buy mild. My favorite brand is Vermont Curry from Japan. It’s not really spicy (it has a touch of apple and honey, too).
