Breastfeeding Support from Philips Avent

Welcome Lisa to the blog today, as she shares her thoughts on the Philips Avent Comfort Single Electric Breast Pump

Becoming a mom is a wonderful experience, but with it comes some potential new challenges – like breastfeeding. Even if the actual act of breastfeeding comes naturally, having support is important. One really great tool for this is the Breastfeeding Support Set from Philips Avent.

Included in this set is just about everything you need (minus an in person lactation consultant.)

  • 1 Philips Avent Comfort Single Electric Breast Pump
  • 1 sealing disc
  • 1 feeding diary
  • 10 storage cups and lids
  • 1 ribbon bra clip
  • 2 milk storage cup adaptors
  • 2 Natural Newborn nipples
  • 1 9-oz. Philips Avent Natural Bottle
  • 13 day breast pads
  • 13 night breast pads
  • 2 thermo gel pads
  • 1 luxury washable pouch

For me, this is baby #5. By now, I think I’m a breastfeeding pro. I’ve nursed through at least 6 of the past 12 years and now I am starting again.

In these early days of nursing, there are a few important staples needed. For me, I desperately need nursing pads or my shirt becomes a sopping wet disaster when my body decides it’s feeding time, the baby cries, or I hold the little one too tightly against myself. I love that the Avent pads are in individual packages and can fit into my bag for on-the-go, since I hate that wet feeling. They have saved me many embarrassing moments and make it possible for me to switch out my breast pads when I’m out.

The gel ones are amazing for when you get a blocked duct. The fact that you can both heat and chill them makes them handy. I recently had a (very painful) blocked duct, and no amount of massaging or feeding seemed to help. It wasn’t until I managed to get that area heated up and combined it with pressure and nursing all at once that the blockage cleared – much to my relief.

Mom using Breast Pump_Lifestyle

At various points in my nursing years, I’ve attempted to pump milk for a variety of reasons: to be able to leave a baby at home for a short period of time, to give big siblings and my husband the opportunity to enjoy that special bonding time, and even when one was in the NICU. Starting with my oldest child, other than the week or so of using a hospital grade breast pump (and filling enough bottles to have fed every baby in the room….), all I’ve used has been a Philips Avent manual pump. Although I tried repeatedly, I never really successfully accomplished to fill many bottles with the manual one.

I honestly had no idea that Philips Avent had electric pumps. I wasn’t even sure how successful it would be, given my history with the manual version.

The pump itself was easy to put together – pop in some batteries, attach the top to the bottle, get yourself settled, and press the on button. At first, I thought it was going to be another dismal failure. Nothing. But as I relaxed and let it do its thing, I was pleased to see that the bottle was filling quickly. In a few minutes I had over 3 oz of milk! Amazing! This has me thinking of the possibilities of what I can do from here – maybe even getting to finally donate milk to our local milk bank for babies in need!

Their products reflect their efforts to respond to the needs of new moms and, quite honestly, are the only bottle/breastfeeding products I’ve ever used with any of my kids. There’s a reason they are so well recommended – they work.

  2. Philips makes some excellent products

  3. Avent makes great products for mom and baby. I love them!

  4. I used Avent bottles with both of my two, it is nice to see that they are there to now also help nursing mothers too!

  5. I think it’s awesome that things worked so well you might be in a position to donate breastmilk for those in need!

  6. What is the ribbon bra clip??? I am wondering if it helps make pumping more “hands-free”. Because that is my pet peeve with pumping is that you can’t really be doing anything else at the same time.

  7. I can appreciate that one buy will bring you everything you need. I was so lost and confused when I was buying everything 3 years ago!

I too used an electric pump when breast feeding but that was over 30yrs ago and they were huge compared to this one from Philips. I had no success at all with a hand pump and both my hand and my breast hurt from trying.
