The Grand Hotel Toronto

This Summer I whisked the family away on a big city adventure in downtown Toronto. Traveling into the city is always an adventure for the kids and they try to be the first to find the CN Tower. On this weekend getaway, we spent an afternoon at the Ontario Science Centre and took in a performance of Dinosaurs Live at Panasonic Theatre, but the highlight for everyone was our stay with The Grand Hotel & Suites Toronto.

Conveniently located at 225 Jarvis Street, The Grand Hotel makes a statement at first glance. With a large staircase entrance, friendly staff to greet you at the door and an elegant lobby, we were impressed before we ever stepped foot into our room.

Our jaws dropped a little (or a lot!) when we opened the door to our room. It was beyond spacious with a full living room, 2 bedrooms with Queen beds, 2 complete bathrooms (and robes!), an office area and a kitchenette with a full sized fridge with freezer, microwave, dishwasher, coffee maker and cutlery.

There is one tv for each bedroom, plus the living room for a total of 3 tvs and the living room sofas pull out into couches making comfortable sleeping quarters for our whole family of 5! The suite offered the most storage space and cupboards I’ve seen from any other hotel and is perfect for extended stays.

Coming from rural Ontario, my all time favourite part about staying in a large city is the view from the window. I can get positively giddy over it and have been known to stay up late at night just staring out out my window at the CN Tower and city lights. I’m not going to lie though, our room had a pretty disappointing view, pulling back the curtains in the kitchen we were met with a view of the neighbours yard and even worse from our bedroom, the dumpsters. It’s okay, because the view from the rooftop patio more than made up for it, and we spent most of our time up there!

The Grand Hotel Toronto Rooftop Patio aka The Grand View

The 8000 sq ft rooftop terrace was a popular place and rightfully so, with plenty of comfortable lounge chairs, a beautiful wooden gazebo and two hot tubs, who wouldn’t want to spend their down time relaxing up there? The view was stunning and we could just see the CN Tower peeking from behind some neighbouring buildings. We soaked up the late afternoon sun before heading out for dinner and later in the evening we brought the boys back up to watch the sun go down and all the twinkling city lights turn on! Everyone was enjoying the warmth of the hot tubs and some fun old music videos projected onto one of the building walls. The next morning, we went back up for one last look before checking out.

The Grand Hotel Toronto Facilities

My husband and I were super impressed with the fitness room, it was really large with plenty of equipment to choose from. If the kids weren’t with us, we would have used this area for sure. Instead, we found ourselves in the two story elegance of the pool area. It really is a beautiful space and includes a hot tub, amble lounge chairs and sauna in the changerooms.

Be sure to take advantage of the luxury SUV shuttle service if you are heading out and about, and breakfast at Citrus Restaurant is not to be missed! Choose an outdoor seat on the covered patio where you can catch the breeze and listen to the fountain and tiny birdies (who will sneak in and steal your toast crust if you leave the table! lol). The food was absolutely hot and delicious with a variety of pickings from fresh fruit, bacon, eggs, home fries, french toast, and more.

A visit to the Grand Hotel Toronto is a real treat and made traveling as a big family so easy and enjoyable! The boys haven’t stopped talking about since we left, and we were all sad to check out. I wish we could have stayed for the week!

It’s a new favourite for Toronto for sure! The oldest said it was the best right after our room in Turks and Caicos, so that’s pretty great right there!
