Spring: The Mess, The Clean Up

Spring has sprung, I know this because there are tracks of mud from my front door to the back and almost every where in between. With three boys and a dog, spring is bittersweet. I look forward to warmer temps and the opportunity to not freeze my butt off on my morning walks with the pup but boy oh boy, spring is MESSY! Nevertheless, we rejoice, it’s spring! Here are a few of the ways we mess up and clean up during the season!

The Spring Clean

This year I joined a spring cleaning challenge group on facebook. It’s actually been kind of fun, well as much fun I guess as tracking your cleaning can be, but it really is fun to check in with the group every morning to check out what my new task is and collect points for the day before. We post before and after shots of projects that went well and it’s neat to see inside everyone’s homes and how they are getting organized and freshened up after the winter. If spring cleaning is a challenge for you, consider getting a few friends together to cheer eachother on! My middle son was even inspired to throughly clean our basement and his bedroom before the Easter Bunny came this year, WITHOUT even being asked! Small miracles happen people, and you never know what a little motivation will do for kids!

The Closet Purge

I’ve already gone through all of my boys  t-shirts to see what fits and what doesn’t for summer. With boys this close in age, clothes tend to just move from one dresser to the next but when they become too small for everyone we send them off for donation. Assuming they are still in good condition of course. Shirts are usually okay, pants and shoes, almost never! Boys are so hard on those!

It’s also important to not ignore your medicine cabinet, as it may need some cleaning out too! If you have expired medication, check out MakeTheDrop.ca to find an Orange Drop location near you to safely dispose of expired medication before restocking for the season ahead.

The Backyard

Easter Friday was such a beautiful day, we got the whole family out to tackle the backyard together. It’s a small yard, but a big job thanks to the post winter doggy clean up we need to do. Not the best part of having a furry friend, that’s for sure! After a full day of scooping and raking and sweeping, my body was aching. Luckily, ALEVE® gives you up to 12 hours of pain relief so you can focus on getting your chores done so you can focus on other spring past times like bike riding and road hockey. Don’t forget to give those bike tires some new air before heading out.

The Garden

Next up for us is prepping the garden for our new batch of veggies. Last year we put in a brand new raised vegetable garden and tried our luck with green onion, tomatoes, peas and herbs. Even though I can’t keep a house plant alive for more than a couple of hours, our outdoor garden did pretty good! To ensure you’re not sneezing and rubbing itchy eyes from all your garden work, keep Claritin® handy all year round for fast, non-drowsy allergy symptom relief

Spring might be a tad bit muddy and it definitely means more time spent on cleaning, but watching the boys come through the door with dirt splattered on their faces and happy grins almost (almost) makes it worth while! Take time to ride your bike through a few puddles this spring yourself!

I do miss having a garden here and since my patio is north facing with no sunshine at all growing things in containers is also difficult. Oh well I’m going to try potatoes when it warms up here and perhaps one tomato plant. We’re hovering at 1C so it might be a while yet. 🙁

  2. I have seasonal allergies that seem to get worse every year!

Yup my allergies are all flared up now,oh i wish they would just go away.I love those boots !

  4. My allergies are TERRIBLE right now, especially since my hubby has started prepping our gardens for spring planting. I sound like a frog all-day long :).

  5. I am still procrastinating doing a big spring clean since it’s still snowing quite regularly here. I have some Claritin on hand for when it finally gets nice. I’ve never tied Aleve before but will have to give it a try soon. 12 hours of pain relief would be amazing!

I love getting out in the yard, well on warmer days anyway even in the mud and gunk. Claritin helps make this possible. Happy Spring! I would definitely wear those boots too, if they fit me.

  7. Got the backyard cleaned up, and the dressers/closets purged!

  8. I have been clearing out so much. Just cleaned out our basement of toys, and stuff and filled over 2 large bags! Couldn’t believe how much junk was there. I just cleaned out our medicine cabinet a few weeks ago, I usually do this as the season changes

  9. At least once we’ll both wear our rain boots and go jumping in the puddles. If only getting rid of the toys was as easy as the dirt!

Oh the spring clean up of doggie waste, we have 3 dogs so our spring yard clean up is pretty gross!! I would love o try a raised garden, I have back problems along with knee so I need something that I do not need to bend over and would love to try and grow a garden!
