ShesConnected Mission: Seek out and Report on the #ToshibaTablet

This holiday season ShesConnected and Toshiba have put me on their Holiday Heroes team as a Toshiba Brand Ambassador. How much do I love Toshiba?? well, since I own a Toshiba TV, Laptop and their newest addition the Tablet, kind of a lot. My Mission was to head out to my nearest authorized dealer to check out the Toshiba Thrive and report back to you all on what it could do and what I thought. So yeah, since I own one of these myself I could have just reported live from my living room, but not one to break the rules, I played nice and forced myself into my local Future Shop.

The Tablet section was clearly marked and I headed right over, knowing exactly what it looked like I headed right to it, but not before glancing around at the competition. I had a chance to check out the tablet at the recent ShesConnected conference and was lucky enough to snag a little discount so I didn’t do much shopping around.

So here she is on display at the Future Shop. You can see that the tab has a really nice sized screen and good picture quality. While it is not as slim as most, it does boast full HDMI and USB support, a full SD card slot and a replaceable battery, which both justifies the thickness and just plain rocks.

Here’s a few other bits of important info:
  • Powered by Android 3.1 (Honeycomb)
  • Has both front and rear facing cameras
  • 10.1″ Wide View Display
  • Grooved easy to grip back panel (Standard black but also comes in 5 other colour ops at additional cost)

Here’s a look at the Thrive’s price points for the 8GB, 16GB and 32GB with Wi-Fi

For a first time tablet user like myself, it was a bit of a learning curve. Give yourself lots of time to check out all the different features. Social media sites like facebook and twitter look and operate a little differently on a tablet. The glass screen is extremely fragile, in my opinion, and it did not take much for ours to receive it’s first crack. Investing the extra money in a good quality case is probably a good idea and buying the right one will also help prop the tablet up. What comes with the extra thickness of the tab is the extra weight and while 1.6 pounds doesn’t seem like much it does get heavy to hold upright when playing certain games like our new found addiction to Angry Birds! lol

With a good price point and full of awesome features, the Toshiba Thrive belongs on every Holiday’s Most Must-Haves List!

I am participating in the Toshiba Brand Ambassador Program by ShesConnected. I received a Toshiba Camileo in exchange or my participation in this campaign. The opinions on this blog are my own.
