Do your kids bring home Scholastic book orders each month from school? We get a few of them between my two boys and they love it! It’s like their own personal mail and they start picking out their favourite books right away! For my oldest son it is always the Lego books, which in his defense, are pretty cool! Some even come with a couple of Lego figures! For my younger boys, they are happy with anything and you’ll find some fun suggestions with these new Scholastic titles below!
Welcome, Baby
By Barbara Reid
You know you are looking at a Barbara Reid book right away, her plasticine illustrations are a dead giveaway and are so creative! This book is about welcoming a new baby into the family and would be a great gift for a soon to be sibling or parent!
Little Jack Horner Live From the Corner
By Helaine Becker, Illustrated by Mike Boldt
This is a super fun twist on a whole slew of nursery rhymes! Poor Jack tries to break out into a rendition of Old McDonald, but he has a tough crowd, especially with Mary Mary Quite Contrary as part of the audience! Kids and adults will like this one remembering all the old classic rhymes. Helaine Becker already won our hearts with her Canadian Christmas book A Porcupine in a Pine Tree!
My Friend Henry
By Philippe Béha
Kids are really protective of their ‘best friends’ aren’t they? This is a cute story of the search for Henry, the best friend, and a surprise ending that makes everyone smile!
Seeing Red
By Robert Munsch, Illustrated by Michael Martchenko
The newest title from Canada’s best selling author, Robert Munsch! This book is all about mischief as two boys try to trick each other into trying crazy ways to colour their hair! Their pranks get a little out of hand and in the end they call a truce and come up with a an even funnier hairstyle to share! I love that the author and illustrator have appeared to have died their hair pink and purple for their back cover photos! Great fun!
If you are looking for some new tales to read with your kids over March Break this year, these are some really great suggestions and if you are thinking ahead to Easter, any of these books would make fun additions to Easter baskets!
when the kids were young we used to get them a book every time as they always had at least one book for 99cents
and I was raised in a house that put books before tv, and my rewards were books!!!
my daughter loves to read as much as I do!!
that’s so great Bina! love to hear that!
My daughter would be so excited when she came home with the order forms. I really miss those days. Even today she has a collection of books that she will not part with. She dreams of having a personal library of her own one day.
I still dream of having a library of my own! lol she sounds like my kind of girl!
My son would love Little Jack Horner-looks cute!
These books all look awesome. We used to get the order forms but haven’t in a while – I may have to look into that.
The Little Jack Horner book sounds like a hoot with all those characters in it!
Those look adorable, my boys would really enjoy the Jack Horner book!
What!!??? Robert Munsch has a new book!?? Squee alert. My kids will be thrilled. We rarely get these catalogues home anymore. My kids forget to bring them home or else the teachers aren’t doing them this year. Not sure which it is. I will look for this asap. Love that guy.
I love Scholastic! Those look like great books.
