For 25 years, Seventh Generation has been strongly rooted in its mission to inspire a revolution that nurtures the health of the next seven generations. The brand’s roster spans kitchen, bathroom, laundry, baby and personal care products designed with the environment and your family’s health in mind. I’ve tried out a number of ‘green’ cleaning products in my day, but what I was really interested to find was that Seventh Generation carried a line of ‘green’ diapers! Oh, us Mom’s know that diapers are bad for the planet, the guilt factor is surely there, but the convenience and durability of a good disposable diaper can just be too hard to pass up!
Is there really another way??
Everyone sleeps better when baby wears our NEW super-absorbent Free & Clear Overnight Diapers. The natural choice for naps, long trips or whenever baby needs extra protection, Overnights are free of fragrances, latex, chlorine and best of all, worries. And thanks to a new and improved core they’re our most absorbent diapers ever.
You might be surprised to even hear we are still using diapers in our household, but our deep sleeping middle boy who suffers from night terrors and anxiety still needs some help to get through the long night. So this is a big boy, putting these diapers to a big test! At first glance, these diapers look like any other on the market, but if you look closely they aren’t a true white, more of a beige colour. This is likely due to the fact that the diapers are chlorine free. They aren’t all decked out in cartoon character but do have appropriate images of The Lorax on the band. We had complete success with the Seventh Generation diapers. No wet mornings at all and a great fit!
I was also able to try out a few cleaning product from Seventh Generation including dish soap and an all purpose cleaner. Not only did the product themselves work great, but I really liked the packaging as well. The bottles were really durable and I loved the spray nozzle on the all purpose cleaner.
Seventh Generation and Shane Koyczan introduce Seven Simple Tips to Live Life More Toxin Free:
1. Once a week, open all the windows in your house for five minutes.
Like you, your house needs to breathe. No matter the season, open all the windows in your house for at least five minutes once a week to release the vapors and bring in the fresh air.
2. Avoid recycling receipts.
They may look like paper and feel like paper, but they shouldn’t be recycled like paper. They could contain BPA (Bisphenol A) that will contaminate the other recyclables in the mix. Either throw receipts into the trash or go paperless to avoid them all together.
3. Use glass containers for lunches and food storage.
There is no situation where the phrase “could leach into your food” is desirable. Even beets leaching into our mashed potatoes become a meal-breaker for some so why tolerate potentially harmful chemicals leaching into our foods from plastic containers?
4. Choose a good, old-fashioned mug for your morning coffee.
Grinding trees into pulp, compressing them into paper and then chucking them into landfills after just one use seems, to put it mildly, inhumane. Consider switching to a reusable cup or mug.
5. Your nose knows; trust it.
If something gives off a scent that makes you cringe, it’s probably a good sign to step away. More likely than not, you’re smelling a Volatile Organic Compound (VOC) and the less of those you inhale, the better.
6. Get a plant and improve your indoor air quality.
Plants like what you exhale, you like what they exhale. Symbiosis. It’s a win-win.
7. Beware: “unscented” is not the same as “fragrance-free.”
No healthy relationship is ever based on secrets and some synthetic fragrances, including the nefarious “unscented” fragrance, can contain hundreds of secret chemicals, none of which are shared with you. Improve your label literacy and be aware of what’s really inside the products you buy.
