It seems each year another baby heads off to kindergarten, last year it was my middle son, this year my youngest and only a few short years ago our oldest made his first steps inside in the school doors. It’s bittersweet for so many reasons. I love that they are growing, learning and making new friends, but I definitely miss having them around the house and taking impromptu holidays.
Back to School Shopping
The boys get new back packs and lunch bags and snack containers the year they start school, after that, we only replace what we NEED to replace when the time comes. It keeps costs down and the kids learn that they can’t just toss away things that are in perfectly good shape, just to get something new. With my youngest starting JK this year, it was his turn to get some shiny new school things and he was SUPER excited to finally get a back pack of his own!
Hubs and I snuck off to Sears Canada with a gift card and a challenge to get the boys ready for school under $100. There’s no quicker way to ruin a budget than to bring the kids shopping, so we tackled the challenge alone this year. First stop: Back packs and lunch bags! We found this super cool Spiderman set for our little buddy! It’s a big hit! The lunch bag is even made with a unique material that gives off a shine, without it looking sparkly. The backpack is really fun and comes with rubber spider zipper pulls and side water bottle holders. He’s looking pretty proud of himself there isn’t he??
I was looking for a bit more variety in terms of boys items at Sears and I was disappointed that they didn’t carry any fall jackets, because all three of my boys really needed a new one. But I was happy to catch the back to school items we needed on sale for 30% off and you just can’t beat the KidVantage lifetime wear our warranty or the Price Match Guarantee!
Lifetime Wear Out Warranty
The Lifetime Wear Out Warranty covers children’s apparel and footwear as long as a child in the family continues to wear the size. If the item wears out, Sears will, at its option, either repair it or replace it with the identical item in the same size, or if it’s unavailable, a similar item of equal value in the same size. It covers children’s apparel sizes from infants up to 18, and footwear up to senior kids’ size 6 .
Having three kids of the same sex, our closets and drawers are overflowing with boys clothes and we didn’t need much, but we did pick out one new shirt for each boy. It’s always fun to wear a new shirt to show your friends the first day of school right? Other items we were desperate need of replacing was underwear and socks. Maybe not much fun for adults, but when your undies come with your favourite Avenger of all time on them, then it’s a pretty exciting day! Star Wars and Hot Wheels socks, also got the boys smiling!!
So overall, here’s what we picked up for the kids to head back to class
One Spiderman backpack
One Spiderman lunchbag
Two long sleeved tees
One short sleeved tee
Two packages of underwear
Three packages of socks
For a grand total of : $97.58 (if we had a girl, I would have picked up some cute hair elastics to get closer!)
