It’s been a long long time since I’ve seen figure skating live (my son’s skating carnival doesn’t count) and I had forgotten how much better it was to be right in the arena with the stars! It’s great to watch it on tv, especially during the Olympics, but nothing really compares to hearing the skates scrape the ice, the lights doing their magic on the ladies sparkly dresses, the music pumping for you to sing along with and seeing the looks on the skater’s faces! They are having even more fun than you are!!
I was lucky enough to take my two favourite ladies, my mom and my best friend, out for a pre Mother’s Day girls night last Sunday to see Stars On Ice as they hit the rink at Budweiser Gardens in London, ON. The house was packed with skating fans from toddler years to great grandmas! Everyone was excited for the show!
Stars on Ice performances showcase Canada’s top figure skaters. Straight from the rinks in Sochi, Russia were Canada’s 2014 medalists Patrick Chan, (hometown heroes) Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir, alongside Kurt Browning, Joannie Rochette, Jeffrey Buttle and plenty of others in world class championship skating.
The entire show was impressive and had us clapping along to the upbeat numbers and swaying through the romantic pairs dances! Some of my favourite performances were the large group numbers or when more than one pair were on the ice, it’s just not something you usually get to see and it was a real treat to see the whole team come together!
There are 5 more performances taking place before they hang their skates for the season! Catch the show in
Edmonton, AB May 9th
Saskatoon, SK May 10th
Calgary, AB May 11th
Victoria, BC May 13th
Vancouver, BC May 15th

I had the chance to see them years ago. It was an amazing show. So special that you got to share the night with the special ladies in your life.
Wow! It’s been ages since I’ve been to a live figure skating event too! The kids’ ones up here are fun, but I mean figure skating like Stars on Ice! Great pics. Looks like it was an amazing show! What a fun way to spend time with the special ladies in your life!
haha yes, technically we’ve seen skating shows like Disney on Ice, but this is no comparison! lol
My mother-in-law loves ice skating and loves live ice shows. I’ve never actually seen one myself, and until reading this didn’t really think of how it could be different from watching it on TV. I’m intrigued now.
I had forgotten too, I watched it on tv a lot of the Olympics but this was way more fun and exciting!
This looks amazing! I would love to see Stars on Ice…I’ve always enjoyed watching figure skating and would really like to see it live. Looks like a great time! 🙂
It’s so much better live, if you get the chance you should try to get there next year!
The icecapades are one of my best childhood memories, it was so special. I wish this was coming to the east coast.
I have never been to a show! Looks like a great time.
