And they’re off!!
Back to school season is in full swing as kids from across the country head back this week and next! My oldest son is eight and heading into grade three and while, he’s not old enough to carry a smartphone just yet, he does have his eye on Mama’s new Nokia Lumia 635! If you have a child ready for the responsibility of their first cell phone, check out the features of the Nokia Lumia 635, it’s a great little phone at the right price!
The Nokia Lumia 635 comes with a standard black case, but you can purchase bright and glossy shells in green, yellow or orange. This definitely upped the cool factor for my kids alone, so it might be worth letting your kiddo pick a fun shell to personalize their new phone. But that’s not the only way you to can change things up, Nokia is all about personalization! You can easily change your settings to customize your screen with favourite colours, background photos that make your Live Tiles come to life and by picking the size, shape and placement of your favourite apps, so they are all at your fingertips!
You can tell that for me the social media apps like twitter, facebook and instagram are pretty important and most often used, but Nokia has some pretty cool signature apps built right into the phone as well. The Lumia 635 comes preinstalled with many apps to get you started, and thousands more available on Windows Phone Store. And with expandable storage up to 128GB, there’s plenty of room to store your favourite apps, photos, music and more.
Nokia Lumia 635 Fab Features
Navigation apps: Here Drive, Here Maps and Here Transit
Each is amazing alone, but are built to work together so no matter how you choose to get around – walking, driving or via public transit – your experience will be seamless from one step of the journey to the next. HERE Maps allows you to download maps to your travel destination and use them in your GPS. Once downloaded you won’t need wifi or data to access them, so you can avoid roaming charges and overage fees. This is perfect for a student off to college in a new city or someone who travels a lot and likes to get out and about.
Mix Radio
Free music on my phone? Yes please! And the Lumia 635 delivers! I love, love, love this app! I can listen to premade hit lists or pick my favourite artists and create my own mixes and the app is pretty smart too! I can thumbs up or down a song so the Mix Radio learns the type of songs that I like! I listened to it this morning making lunches, I used it while stuck in my bedroom by myself for hours painting and the boys like it too and have wandered off with their headphones plugged into it on more than one occassion!
Kids Corner
Which brings me to Kids Corner! lol I have now set up Kids Corner so that the boys only have access to what I set up for them to use, including game apps. They can be game junkies and will steal my phone away at the first turn of my back, this gives me a little peace of mind that they aren’t messing around with my email and are sticking to flinging angry birds around!
Wifi and Data Sense
These are super handy for keeping track of your used Data and will warn you when you are getting close to your limit. Wifi sense will automatically switch you to wifi when it’s available and will even memorize wifi passwords for your favourite drop ins like McDonalds and Tim Hortons!
The Nokia camera is only 5 MP with built in flash, so it works best outdoors in good lighting. I was able to snap some great pics on our trip to Niagara Falls before school started. This phone also doesn’t have a front camera, which normally is needed for that all important selfie! lol I actually don’t take too many of these but Nokia has a great little work around with the Glam Me app! Basically it’s a guide with sensor beeps that help you position the camera so your face is centred. It worked surprisingly well and took some of the best selfies I’ve seen of myself! I was impressed! Now that you have your basic selfie, you can go ahead and glam it up with filters and touch ups to your liking, even brightening your eyes and teeth and evening your skin tone if you prefer!
With a 4.5-inch durable LCD screen, great features like Microsoft’s Office Mobile and OneDrive plus an affordable price point that won’t break the bank, the Nokia Lumia 635 is great option on the phone market!

Cool looking phone!
It’s cool right?
I love the kids corner and being able to control what kids can touch and play with, that it really looks stylish, and you can purchase glossy shells. I would love the orange one!
The orange is pretty splashy too, love it!
It sounds like this phone has great features! I love the idea of a kids corner. The mix radio is so cool too. I’ll have to look into this phone next time I need to upgrade!
We are in that position now to look at getting phone for the oldest. It is nice to see the features of this one and get a real moms opinion..
The mix radio will be a big hit!
I love my Nokia phone, but I could always go for an upgrade. I love all the fun features!
You know front facing cameras are ok for Skype but I would never take a selfie with it, usually its really low quality. The Glam Me App is so smart! My last phone was a Nokia and I loved it!
the Glam Me App worked do well, I actually preferred it!
Sounds cool! I am so not tech savvy… but I’m starting to think I should get a phone. 🙂 Love all the features here – thanks for showing them off!
