Last year Canada witnessed a long cold winter, (the summer wasn’t stellar either to be honest) and this year isn’t shaping up to much better. As soon as the first flake of frosty snow hit the air, my family boarded a plane for Jamaica! If you are anything like us, you are probably making a list of travel destinations right now, instead of gifts to receive! Maybe Santa can send us all to warmer climates?
Our trip to Jamaica was a first flying experience for my younger boys. It’s expensive to fly as a family of five and the boys are young so we hadn’t tackled air travel until now. One our first snags was luggage! In the past we had loaded the van with everything but the kitchen sink, but airlines have strict and pricey policies on how you cart your belongings around with them and we quickly knew we were going to be in need of some more suitcases.
The very day we flew, Air Canada had changed their policy to start charging for bags, so we knew we wanted to keep checked luggage to a minimum. I headed to Walmart.ca to see what they had to offer in terms of luggage sets and carry ons.
Walmart Canada had a lot of different sets to choose from, including both soft and hard sided sets. I’ve never used a hard sided set, so I stuck to what was familiar with me and this polyester set from McBrine caught my eye.
McBrine Light weight 3 piece soft sided luggage set on swivel wheels
This set comes with 3 matching pieces, in the following sizes
- 29 ” upright 29″ H x 18″ W x 12″ D 10 lb
- 25 ” upright 25″ H x 16″ W x 11″ D 8.85 lb
- 20 ” upright 20 ” H x 14″ W x 9″ D 7 lb
Make sure you check our airline’s policy on sizing for luggage, they can be pretty picky when it comes to this, especially with carry on luggage and you don’t want to be caught off guard with extra fees. We were glad that the small case in this set, worked within our airlines guidelines.
The set comes in either Black or Plum, and knowing that black bags are super popular and often hard to spot on the baggage claim turnstile, we went with the Plum. We did see a few other plum cases, but I appreciated the McBrine red markings that stood out as our bags!
Other great features incude:
- Heavy duty self repairing #10 zipper closure
- Fully lined interior
- Piggy back strap
- Two pockets
- Expandable
Piggy back straps are something we use often when we travel and allow you to pull more than one suitcase at a time. This is great when travelling with small kids who can’t handle their own luggage. I also love the ability to expand, I am a classic over packer on my way too a destination, you don’t want to see what my luggage looks like coming home! Just be careful you don’t go over the weight limit!
Each suitcase comes with four 360 degree swivel wheels with aluminum trolley, for easy maneuvering. We have an old piece of luggage that only has two wheels and it was constantly falling over and didn’t spin, this was a serious upgrade and I loved how you could literally spin the case in a circle with ease!
No need to worry about storing three separate pieces of luggage! McBrine luggage has a uniquely tapered design and they all nest right inside of each other so it’s really only like storing one! This is one of the greatest benefits to buying a full set of luggage instead of piece by piece when you need it.
Our McBrine luggage from Walmart.ca has travelled to Jamaica, England and France in just one month and we have been very happy with it at every stop!
Visit Walmart.ca to browse their luggage selection before you travel this winter. They have 33 different complete sets in various price ranges. Our McBrine 3 piece set featured here currently sells for $275 on the Walmart Canada website.
Happy Travels!

Looks like a great set of luggage, love the colour! That is a decent price for the set too!
I love that 360 degree swivel wheels feature!
That is something I will soon need to replace. Mine got damaged by the airlines. Looks like a nice set.
I’ll have to share this with my sister, she’s on the hunt for lightweight luggage for her upcoming trip. Plum is a great color…..and it doesn’t get any easier than reliable Walmart!!
You know what I put on my Christmas list to my Dad this year? Luggage! I have seen so many fun patterned and coloured ones at Walmart that I told him about! Looks like you found the perfect set here too!
I love the funky sets too, they are fun!
Those are gorgeous luggage pieces!!! We got two amazing luggage sets for our wedding but unfortunately, we have only used them once! I love how these ones nest inside one another!! Space saving is very important!
Luggage is a great wedding gift!
This post couldn’t have arrived at a better time for us!! Our luggage is all trash. It has been through the ringer this year in all the media trips and conferences and work trips for consulting business, I have been dragging it too. One big suitcase is busted so bad from a conference that I can’t lift the handle. As in telescoping handle won’t telescope!! So I need this before our cruise which is coming up FAST!! Walmart.ca here I come.
ooohhhh cruise!!! That sounds awesome, you are definitely going to need something new, that luggage sounds like it’s seen better days!
Our luggage is 12 years old and weighs a ton. I would hate to run it through a weight machine at the airport. Before we fly away with the kids I will have to grab some new luggage too. This one looks so durable and I love that it es expendable!
I love how light they are making them these days, it’s so easy to go over the limit at the airport!
All this talk about travel really makes me wish I were going somewhere warm 😉 The luggage looks lovely!
This looks like it’s a great quality luggage set!
