A trip to Medieval Times Dinner and Tournament is like a step back into time, another era, where valiant knights fight for chivalry and kings and princesses reign proud. Toronto Castle has a magical feel and right from the large looming wooden doors of the front entrance, you literally feel like you’ve left the modern world behind.
First things first, you need to know who you will be cheering for! Each guest is given seating arrangements in a coloured section of the arena and that is the knight you will be cheering for during the tournament. On this visit we were cheering for the brave Green Knight with the charming smile!
After snapping a quick photo with the Princess herself and the Falconer, we were royally welcomed in as m’lady and m’lord, and had time to explore the inside of the castle where you can peek through windows into the horses stalls and check out medieval merchandise of all kinds to purchase. On this visit to the castle, the boys had a chance to participate in Jr. Knight Training before the tournament began and it was fabulous! Read all about it here. There are more dates for this coming soon!
When the dinner and tournament are ready to begin, the host appears to welcome the crowd and call each group in by colour. The seating is stadium style, so every seat has a perfect view! Our wench (waitress for those of you not brushed up on your medieval lingo) welcomed us and began to bring out our meal course by course.
The Bill of Fare included, Tomato Bisque soup that our wench called ‘Dragon’s Blood’ Soup and got a giggle out of the kids! Garlic Bread, Roasted Chicken, BBQ Spare Rib (unicorn horns), delicious Herb-Basted Potato and for dessert an Apple Pastry. Everything is simply delicious and eaten with no utensils! This is the medieval times afterall! Dinner is always a favourite for my husband and I when we visit, but unfortunatly, our younger boys are pretty picky eaters and they aren’t that interested. No worries, we were able to box up all their uneaten food to enjoy the next day at home. My only complaint is on the beverage choices which only consist of Pepsi or water. We aren’t pop fans and it would have been nice to something other than plain water.
The animals of the show are always amazing and we enjoyed watching the clever falcons and gorgeous horses!
The knights compete in tournament games and if they complete their tasks they are given flowers to throw to the ladies in their cheering section. It was really fun to watch!
The King watches everything from above, and at one point an unannouced visitor arrives. He’s not a friend of the kingdom to say the least and wants to take the Princess. Don’t worry, she’s in good hands with these champion knights to defend her!
Jousting commences and ends with a ground battle on foot, which is super exciting! You can even see the sparks fly off of the swords and other weapons!
This kid was glued to the action!
In the end it was our valiant Green Knight that won the tournament and saved the Princess!
Don’t be in a rush to hurry out of the arena after the show, the King and Princess will pose for photos and all of the knights enter the main gathering space in the castle as well, where you can grab a photo with your favourite knight!
It may be a medieval castle, but these are modern times, Toronto Castle has much appreciated free wifi available, so be sure to tweet along with the show and share your photos to @TorontoCastle and @MedievalTimes using #MTFan

If they got to take part in the Jr. Knights Training as well, well that would be the icing on the cake. Priceless. Thank you for the chance to win this for my little ones.

Good always conquer evil in our house- sometimes the brave knight even tames the fierce dragon and becomes their friend. Hahaha- too precious. They have never been to the castle before.
