It’s hard being the youngest sibling. I have three boys, the youngest two are just barely a year apart, so it can be hard for my little guy who’s on the bottom of the totem pole. Because the boys are close in size, age and interests, sometimes he doesn’t understand that for safety reasons he can’t always do everything that his older brothers can do. Being just that tiny bit shorter has had him sitting out on fun rides and activities before, but it’s a daily reminder in our van, as he is our last in a five point harness car seat.
When the van stops and everyone jumps out of their seat, he’s left stuck in his car seat waiting for someone to come help him out, and that’s been a big of a sore spot for him for some time now. This Spring, he’s moving into a big boy booster seat and he couldn’t be happier about it!
When it came time to choose a new model for him, it didn’t take long to decide, since we been down this road before with his brothers, we knew we would be looking for a Diono! My husband is not a man who impresses easily and he is a big fan of the Diono seats. They are not just well-made, but smartly made, and having used one with the older boys, we knew what we wanted.
To our surprise the Monterey Booster was back on the market with a new and improved version, of the one we already owned and loved! The new Monterey has some nice new features that makes installation that much easier!
Monterey® Booster
The Monterey is a full-featured, expandable high-back booster seat designed to fit growing children 40 lb to 120 lb. The adjustable head rest and deep, aluminum reinforced sides are lined with energy absorbing EPS foam for side impact protection and the reinforced seat bottom provides extra lap belt safety. This significantly strengthens the Monterey and provides superior defense against crash forces.
The seat can be customized to fit your child securely. A simple-to-use dial on the back adjusts the width of the seat to fit a child’s shoulders up to 50.8 cm (20″) wide and the 11-position headrest gives ultimate flexibility and adjusts up to 16.5 cm (6.5″) in height with one hand for an easy, precise fit. As a fixed-position booster, integrated UAS connectors and front adjusters allow for a safe and secure installation in seconds (UAS use is optional) and keeps the seat in position when not in use.
The seat bottom has extra length for leg support and features thick AirTek™ foam and tapered sides for total comfort. My son’s favourite part was having the retractable, dual cup holders! We often take long car rides and the extra-deep and angled cup holders are awesome at keeping drinks upright and secure. The boys love having their drinks at arms reach!
Mom and Dad love the Heathered Grey and black material, it looks great and should hide spill stains really well. Our other Monterey is a few years old now and still looks amazing!
They look prtty good sitting side by side in their matching ‘race car seats’ as they like to call them! My boy is so happy to have his big boy status reinstated with the new seat and quickly mastered buckling and unbuckeling his belt. When the boys are ready the Diono Monterey can be used backless as well. Parents will be happy to know that the Diono Monterey packs flat for travel and storage, as well.

It looks like a great booster seat, will have to tell my friend about it since she is starting to look for on.e
It’s a great one, we are very happy with it
They have come a long way over the years although as a grand parent I find most are difficult to install and remove.
Booster seats tend to be easier than baby car seats I find
Such great car seats….we’ve been eying this one for a few weeks. Definitely our #1 choice!
It’s a great choice, we are very happy with it!
and your boy looks quite happy sitting in it too 🙂
This is one nice looking seat, sure looks comfy too!!
I like the support and the extra features (eg. cup holder) You child will be safe and comfortable for the long haul.
the cup holders are great!!
Those look like very comfortable seats!
I’m impressed by how good the “old” seat looks. That it a good testimonial for it.
they stand up well and we take a lot of road trips! That red seat went through my oldest and my middle child uses it now!
Nice!
oh wow!! that looks like a really great seat. my daughter isn’t ready for this yet but I will keep this in mind for when the time comes 🙂
This sounds like it has all the bells and whistles that you would want in this type of car seat. Love that it packrat for travel.
Packs flat not packrat. Sorry!
This looks like a marvellous booster seat. I find it fantastic that it is so adjustable, that is a huge plus. I’m always glad when my grandchildren progress to a booster seat, I have huge difficulties with baby car seats (my fingers and thumbs can’t push well enough it appears!) getting the kids out or even in!
car seats can be tricky, it’s always nice when they move on to the booster stage!
Those look like really well made car seats!
Nice booster seat!
That looks so comfortable and sturdy.
