I’ll admit I wasn’t always interested in the royal family, my mother in law used to have shelves lined with books on the subject and I never saw the fascination. That all changed when the hubs and I picked up watching The Tudors on Netflix a few years back. If you’ve never seen the show, let’s just say it was sexy and fascinating with many affairs to be had and beheadings to squirm over! I was sad that the series ended and couldn’t help but wonder what happened next, it didn’t take long before I was asking to see some of the books on my mother in laws bookshelf!
Queen Elizabeth II and the Royal Family is a book available from DK Publishing and is a true celebration and tribute to the royal family dating all the way back to the first kings of England and as recent as the baby Princess Charlotte who was born to one of the most popular royal couples of all time Prince William and Kate Middleton, or the Duke and Dutchess of Cambridge as their called now.
In between you can brush up on all your favourite royals from new or recent years like Henry VIII who reigned for 40 years and is the focus of The Tudors show, Bloody Mary, Elizabeth I, the ‘People’s Princess’ Diana, and Fergie!
Official Synopsis
Queen Elizabeth II and the Royal Family is a magnificent tribute to the life and reign of Queen Elizabeth II and a celebration of the British royal family, from the first English kings through the birth of the queen’s second grandchild to Prince William and Kate, the Duchess of Cambridge.
Highly illustrated with photographs and timelines throughout, Queen Elizabeth II and the Royal Family tells the story of the House of Windsor, and includes events such as the royal wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton and profiles on key people such as Princess Diana and Prince Harry.
Graphics illuminate details of the queen’s personal and private life, vivid photographs highlight important events, special features showcase the royal residences, and timelines untangle the complete history of the kings and queens of England and Scotland, tracing the line of succession to the throne.
This gorgeous book is the most complete visual history of Britain’s most enduring icon, Queen Elizabeth II, and the royal family.
Inside the pages of Queen Elizabeth II and the Royal Family you’ll also get a peek into some of the queen’s residences as well as important pieces of jewellry. It wouldn’t be a royal discussion unless jewels were involved right?
This book has lovely images and is broken up in such a way that makes for easy ready along with fun quotes and timelines to help you follow along. We get to see the royal family in times of trouble such as World War II and times of celebration like the Queen’s Golden Jubilee! And if you’ve ever wondered what the Queen actually does, her working life is well explained as well. Did you know that the Queen attends over 300 official engagements a year on top of her ceremonial duties of head of state? That would be exhausting for anyone let alone someone almost 90! The Queen is starting to slow down and travel less and as she advances in age, it will be very interesting to see when her reign comes to an end and a new era of monarchy begins.
The royal family is a fascinating bunch and I find their history most interesting, especially with so many women ruling the throne throughout the years! Today, the royal family are similar to the celebrities we see on movie screens and are widely admired for their fashion and grace. As we move forward, all eyes are watching and I’m glad to have books like this one to guide us through the history.
Queen Elizabeth II and the Royal Family will make a great christmas gift for a royal family fan you know and looks great out on the coffee table. Following in my mother in laws footsteps, I’m starting my own collection on our bookshelves.
You’ll find this title and may others on the DK Gift Boutique
