Did you know that Thomas has been a friend to children all around the world for 70 years? Holy cow right? I had no idea! I asked my husband the other day if he remembers Thomas from his childhood and he definitely said yes, he’s known about Thomas since he was just a young boy too. Now, I can’t wait to ask my own dad! I wonder if he also remembers Thomas from when he was a boy.
Being a boymom to three, one of the things I’ve noticed with boy toys is that they never go out of style. All of the same favourites I raided from my brothers bedroom are toys my own boys play with now. And my kiddos are expecially lucky because my husband kept a lot of his special toys from when he was young, so many cool vintage memorabilia from Hot Wheels, G.I. Joe and Star Wars!
To mark this huge milestone for Thomas, we’re celebrating the special multi-generational relationships Thomas has had with families over time, especially between dads and their sons.
To honour fathers and all that they do, Thomas and Friends™ is helping you find ways to take time every day to thank and celebrate dad!
Put His Health First.
Being a dad is a busy job and, just like mom, sometimes their health can come second. This Movember, Thomas and Friends is reminding dads everywhere to get regular check ups from their doctor. In support of Movember, Thomas and Friends™ is also selling blue mustaches, which can be purchased with all proceeds being donated in support of the Movember initiative which raises funds for prostate cancer research.
Take Time to Show Your Love.
Getting caught up in busy routines, you can often forget to show your appreciation for dad. Make sure you give him a hug every day and let him know that you love him. While this may seem small, it will go a long way in making him feel loved and appreciated.
Have Fun Together.
Try taking the initiative to set a fun activity up for him and the little ones. If he loves baseball, proactively ask to go to the park as a family and throw the ball together. Spending time together doing something he loves will create memories that will last for years to come.
Disconnect to Connect.
It can be easy to spend time together as a family plugged in watching a movie or catching up on your favourite TV shows. But, rather than spending all your time in front of a screen, try setting your littles ones up in a quiet space with dad and their favourite toys. They can have fun building the ultimate Thomas and Friends™ track and dad can share his memories of growing up with Thomas has his best friend!
