The days are getting longer and the weather is getting warmer. This can only mean one thing – spring has sprung! After a long winter of being bundled up, I quickly realize how much my children have grown! Instead of purchasing all new clothes for them, hand-me-downs are a great cost-effective way to easily turn-over your little one’s wardrobes.
As as a mom to three boys, I know this all too well. I would rather buy quality clothes that will stand the test of time and take care of them well because I know that they won’t just be passed down once, but twice!
Here are some simple and affordable ways to keep your kid’s clothes in great condition, and hand-me-down ready:
Host a clothing swap. Gather all your friends and have a clothes swap. Everybody can bring their kid’s old clothes that they have either outgrown or are simply tired of. It gives you and your friends the chance to catch-up and socialize while refreshing your kids wardrobe and saving money. Bonus: gather your friends who wear the same size as you do for a clothes swap of your own!
Keep it in the family. At the end of every season, have your children pack away any clothes that are getting too small for them. Label the box with the date and season so in a few years, when your next child is ready for a new outfit, you know exactly where to find them. Make sure to wash everything before you store it away, so that it is clean and fresh when you pull it out of storage. Pro Tip: OxiCleanTM Foam Pre-treat rids your children’s clothes of tough dried on stains – even grease!
Embrace the bold colours. Fun, bright and colourful spring clothes can lose their vibrancy quickly during the year – making it hard to pass them on. The right laundry detergent can go a long way in caring for clothes. Pro Tip: Upgrade from ordinary detergents and give your kids clothes a high definition clean with OxiCleanTM HDTMLaundry Detergent (available in liquid and paks). It will ensure your whites stay radiant and your colours vibrant.
Do you have any great tips for re-using old clothes and saving money?
I use OXY all of the time on my boys clothes. I LOVE OXY Baby spray on stains. So effective! I hand my boys clothing down to my nephew who can use them. 🙂
I need to get me some of that Oxi Max Force, having a husband as a mechanic makes for some dirty and greasy clothes and it’s hard to get them clean!!
yeah mine always had hand me downs, very seldom had brand new clothes unless it was winter jackets or any type of footwear
Oxi Max Force is the best for my laundry,it always gets tough on stains
I have some Oxi Clean paks (cold water) for my washing, it works a treat I must say. It’s not the OxiCleanTM HDTMLaundry Detergent though.
We love both Oxi and hand me downs!! As a single income family of 5 they are a must!!
The clothes in the best condition were passed on, to the next in line – I had 7 children (all adults now) so there was rarely anything good enough to pass on to someone else. Some of the baby clothes might have done but were too old fashioned by the time we were done with them.
I can imagine, even with three boys there isn’t too much that is in good enough condition to pass on after us. My youngest sometimes gets new clothes that make it to the neighbours when he’s done.
We do hand me downs in our family, too. Good thing I had a shopping problem with my oldest. :p
Quick story: My youngest had a bad fall recently and there was blood. Don’t worry, he was OK. But when I was helping him, he bled all over one of my favourite sweaters. First thing I thought was that I had to get the BABY OxiClean on the stain. I did and the blood came out of my sweater! No staining!!! Woot, WOOT!!!
wow!!! that’s amazing!! I remember when I thought my son had ruined some light shorts with blueberries. My neighbour sent home her oxy clean for me to try out and it literally removed the stain while it sat overnight, I hadn’t even washed them yet!
Oxy Clean is the best when it comes to cleaning of any kind. I love using it when doing laundry or especially cleaning the bathroom
I’ve never tried Oxi laundry products! I’m impressed at your experience!
