Turkey Sausage, Tomato and Asparagus Grilled Pizza

Turkey Sausage, Tomato and Asparagus Grilled Pizza
Ingredients
- 3-4 medium Canadian turkey sausages, grilled
- 1 bunch of thin asparagus, 12-14
- 3 medium tomatoes, thinly sliced
- 3/4 cup mozzarella, thinly sliced or shredded
- 2 packages pre-made pizza dough
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1 tbsp garlic powder
- 2 tbsp fresh thyme
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Bring your pizza dough to room temperature to make it easier to stretch out.
- While your dough is acclimating, slice the veggies and cheese, and break up the sausages into chunks.
- Divide each package of dough into 2-3 pieces.
- Pre-heat your grill to high.
- Generously flour your work surface. Stretch each piece of dough out to your desired thickness.
- Generously flour a pizza stone or griddle. Transfer each individual pizza dough to the stone or griddle (you may have to cook in batches).
- Build your pizzas: sprinkle each pizza with some olive oil, garlic powder and salt and pepper to taste. Add some turkey sausage, tomato slices and asparagus. Top with mozzarella cheese.
- Cook on the grill for 10–20 minutes, until pizza crust is browned, and cheese is melted and bubbly. Note that cooking times will vary depending on the strength of your BBQ and the thickness of the dough.
- Remove the pizza from the BBQ and let rest for 5 minutes. Sprinkle with fresh thyme and serve.
Notes
You can also substitute for the sausage with leftover turkey breast or turkey thigh meat. Feel free to mix up the toppings with any seasonal vegetables you have on hand.

How you can grill up great meals and tasty dishes with all your favourite turkey cuts:
1. Make sure to prep your grill – clean and oil the grates before you begin.
2. Learn to use indirect and direct heat zones. Direct heat zones are well suited for quick grilling and searing for turkey sausages, turkey thighs and turkey breast tenders, while indirect heat zones are perfect for low and slow cooking turkey breast roasts and drumsticks.
3. Leave the lid up to avoid flare-ups when searing or cooking on high heat, but keep the lid closed for longer cooking times over low or indirect heat.
4. Keep salt out of your turkey rubs or marinades and season with salt during grilling to avoid drying out the surface of your meat.
5. Baste your cuts during cooking and finish with any sauces in the last few minutes of cooking to avoid burning.
6. Use marinades, rubs and brines for a big flavour boost before your turkey hits the grill.
7. Consider factors such as bone-in or boneless, the power of your grill and the size of your cut when establishing grill times.
8. Always let your turkey cuts rest for 10-20 minutes (depending on size) before serving
to ensure maximum juiciness.
9. To ensure a good sear, make sure your meat is dry and your grill is hot.
10. Pick the right cut for your needs. In a hurry? Choose cuts like sausage, strips, cubes, kabobs and cutlets. Feeding a group or have more time on your hands? Choose a breast roast, drumsticks or a half turkey.
