Lavish and Lime Waste Free Lunch Essentials

With Earth Day fast approaching, you may be giving some thought as to how you can be more ‘green’ in your day to day living. A good place to start is in packing lunches. If you or your little ones regularly bring home packed lunches with you to work or school, you probably have some room to improve in the waste-free department.

April 22, 2013 is Earth Day

Canadian company Lavish and Lime, has a great selection of waste free lunch essentials that are not only better choices for the environment, but they are fun and fancy looking too!

ss strawEvery good eco lunch should start with a reusable water bottle, and Lavish and Lime carries everything from glass, to stainless steel and even collapsable choices! My family each has their own water bottles that we keep in the fridge door at all times. The boys help themselves to some cool, refreshing water as often as they like, and when the bottle is empty they leave it for me on the counter to clean and refill! This method works really well for my family, but using a glass and a sleek stainless steel straw is a really great option too. I love the stainless steel straw because it makes everything I drink feel really cold!

For school sandwiches and snacks neoprnene reusable and dishwasher safe sleeves are a great option and for kids snacks like fishy crackers, diced fruit and yogurt, Lunch Bot stainless steel containers are perfect! They are BPA free of course and are completely leak proof! I did find that the edges of these containers are a thin and can be a little bit sharp when cleaning. When handwashing mine, I actually cut myself on the edge, when my hand was doing a twisting motion inside the container. They are perfectly safe for little hands, I think this just had more to do with my hands squeezing into a small space and being soft from the dishwasher, but it is something to be aware of.

If you are into bento style lunches, or just enjoy making lunch time fun for your kiddos, the Fun Bites Sandwich cutter is a must-have item!  My boys loved having their peanut butter sandwiches arrive in tiny squares! Normally, they would only eat one sandwich, but when served this way, they actually gobbled up two or three! Because my boys eat like birds and are quite picky, this pleased me to no end! The cutter slices off the sandwich crust and with a rocking motion cuts through the sandwich and pops out the pieces in the form of small squares!
