Taking Flight

Some of you may remember that we had a mommy and daddy Robin take squatters rights in our boys climber earlier this Spring. It was a fascinating adventure having the opportunity to watch the baby bird making process in action. Each day one egg appeared until there was a total of 4 tiny blue beauties in the nest.

Mommy fluffed herself up and sat in her window everyday, while I sat in mine and watched her. It was frustrating to keep the boys out of their climber, but they were actually really good about it. About two weeks after the eggs appeared, they began to hatch. I was so surprised to peek in there and see three little fuzzy, ugly, baby birds instead of the eggs! (one egg never did hatch)

Mama and Daddy didn’t take too kindly to the peeking and I now might have a fear of low flying birds! They are very protective and I may have risked my life to get a photo  for ya’ll lol The dedication of a blogger, I tell ya! lol Actually, it wasn’t safe to let the boys up for a look, but I still wanted to be able to show them the babies, so the pictures would have to do.
It was even more exciting to watch the Robin family now, as they kept busy collecting worms and cleaning  their nest. It appeared as though they carried the baby poop out of there in their beaks! crazy! I mean, I love my kids and all, but their is a limit! lol

The babies grew quickly and soon we could see their little beaks rise up when mom or dad swooped in with a treat. Fluff was replaced by black feathers and about two weeks later they were taking flight training in our yard. It really was amazing for the boys to see the first baby bird take his inaugural flight – jumping out of the window and them hopping around the yard. The next day the last one went and they never returned to the nest. Finally, we have our climber back!

But part of me misses looking out the window at the Robin family in theirs.
