Peter Walsh- Lighten Up

You have probably all seen Peter Walsh pleading with couples to get rid of old lamps and smelly clothes on the TLC hit Clean Sweep or maybe you’ve caught him helping Oprah declutter the nation, but did you know that he’s also an accomplished author?

Peter has a number of books under his belt with titles like-

  • It’s All Too Much: An Easy Plan for Living a Richer Life with Less Stuff
  • It’s All Too Much, So Get It Together
  • Enough Already!: Clearing Mental Clutter to Become the Best You
  • How to Organize (Just About) Everything
  • Does This Clutter Make My Butt Look Fat?: An Easy Plan for Losing Weight and Living More

And now comes his newest title

Lighten Up: Love What You Have, Have What You Need, Be Happier with Less

In Lighten Up, Peter demonstrates that this reassessment of priorities is a great opportunity to examine our lives and circumstances and to make the changes necessary to focus on the things that really matter. Exploring the real source of happiness, Peter offers a clear strategy for finding the delicate balance between what we have, what we need, and what we want or feel entitled to.

With three unique audits that cover every aspect of our well-being, he takes us step by step through sizing up not just our possessions and financial statements but also our thoughts, goals, use of time and energy, and even our innermost sources of tension. He then shows us how to embrace the changes we’ve experienced, set a new path for the future, and come to accept that living on less can feel—and be—so much richer.

In Lighten Up you will learn how to:

• Change the way you and your family measure happiness
• Face your financial situation and set realistic priorities
• Create space for what really matters
• Plan realistically for financial and emotional security
• Be happier with less

Peter’s plan will help you achieve a personal balance that brings you happiness and the courage to choose a richly rewarding life over the mindless pursuit of more stuff.

I actually don’t have the problems that were dealt with in this book, once I found myself on maternity leave I learned pretty fast how to be frugal, cut expenses, use coupons, and any other means that I could contribute to our income. But I liked watching Peter on tv and knew he was good at what he does, helping people declutter not only their homes but their lives and setting them on a path to better tomorrow.

I wanted to check out one of his books to see what he was writing and hoping to maybe pick up some organizational tips. Well, there wasn’t much in the way of organizing because this book is more about finances but it was interested to flip through and I enjoyed many of the stories he shares about people has met and worked with. If you are in a situation where you could use some help on cutting back spending and stabilizing your financial situation than this is a good read for you.
