Their whole lives you teach your children to hold your hand
Never leave your side
Stay where you can see them
Wear a seat belt
to Not talk to strangers…..
And then the first day of school arrives
and you put that tiny four year old on a big yellow school bus full of kids bouncing in their seats
and watch it drive off….
You silently wish them luck
and hope that they are safe
While your gut tells you everything about this is wrong
and your head tells you it’s the right thing to do
and your heart begins to break….
Oh my goodness, he’s adorable!! Such a big step for them isn’t it? But so exciting too 🙂
Oh man! Daycare was hard enough on me, I don’t know what I’m going to do once we hit school age! Thankfully I have a few years left…..
Awww. my little guy started kindergarten this year too. My last one at home. sigh. 🙂
What a heart breaker! Good Luck on his school year! I wish I could offer some wisdom but mine just started today…
first day for us too, it’s tough right?
It was awesome and the worst all at once 😀
All of my children are now in full time school and it a bit of a shock to my system. How true that we tell them to hold on tight and then we just release. Your big boy is completely adorable and I bet he loves school, doesn’t he?
Awww, he’s so cute! My 4-year-old is going to preschool again this year – five afternoons a week – and talking about Kindergarten next year. She loves school!
I won’t lie. I cried when my daughter got on the bus this year. And she’s off to grade 2.
Don’t even ask how I’ll feel when my little one goes to preschool later this week…in her words…”Mommy, you can sit and have a cup of coffee and cry”.
it’s bittersweet right? today my oldest isn’t going and sick and middle man had to go alone, he screamed and cried all morning about it, it broke my heart. But he did it, he got on the bus and headed out. so scary. you feel for them.
how cute! LOVE his hat!
He is SOOO cute!
aww perfectly said.
How precious! They really do grow up so fast. My youngest is in 3rd grade already. I am not sure where all that time went 🙂
It is so hard seeing your kids grow up. Kindergarten is such a huge step. Pretty soon though, you will love seeing how much your child is learning. My oldest just started 4th grade and I can’t bear to imagine junior high. I have a 1 year old who I love so dearly. I cherish every moment with him because I know they grow up so fast.
I guess I was really lucky with a husband that insisted on homeschooling. I dressed them up for their first day of school, I introduced them to they new books, I taught them how to read, write, and other wonderful things. Now I have one with a degree in chemistry, one a novelist, one who will be graduating with a degree in applied physics, and one studying for certificates in auto mechanics. I am such a lucky mom.
great job mama!
Well said mama. You got me all teary eyed.
So cute. I feel like this every time I drop off my kindergartener, I just don’t want to let go!
Boy, is he ever a looker. He looked so happy on his first day. My oldest is 8 years-old and it’s still so bittersweet to send her off. I’m going to be going through this again in a couple years. It’s so hard but, it’s great to see them become more independent. 🙂
they really grow so much their first year at school, we will go through it all again next year too!
That is so unbelievably cute! I love your poem. Made me tear up. What a cutie!
thanks mel!
