You know you’re a Canadian Mom when….
You’ve bought toys with Canadian Tire money
Your kids beg you for Smarties and Pop
You consider whether the kids Halloween costumes will fit over a snowsuit
Your car or garage doubles as extra fridge space in the winter
You think it’s too cold in the winter, too hot in the summer
You grew up on Timbits and so are your kids
Your kids can drink legally while still a teen.
You talk about the weather with friends and strangers alike
You’ve given the kids Homo Milk
Your kids understand that the word “Car!” involves moving a hockey net.
You get excited whenever an American television show mentions Canada.
You were sad when Ernie Combs a.k.a Mr Dress Up died
You serve your kids poutine for lunch
You knit your kids toques
Someone in a Home Depot offers you assistance… and they don’t work there
Your kids get exercise in the Winter by shoveling the driveway
You think nothing of hurling your two year old off a snowy cliff while out tobogganing
I know you have more Canadian Mamas! Go ahead and share yours!
You know when you’re a Canadian Mom when you always have a bottle of maple syrup in the house for pancakes and waffles!
I love this list! I can relate to every one of these.
Last week my 5 year d asked if we could go to “Timmy’s” and get a treat. This past weekend I tried to push my 14 month old down our bunny sledding hill (2 feet of descent) and realized that an appropriate sledding age really is 2….so I let our 2 year old go for a good ride 🙂
two really is a great age, it seems so young, still a baby really, but they love it!
too funny, I love it, I’m sending this to my sister who moved to Wisconsin, where I’m sure she can still relate to this list.
lo hope she likes it!
I love these! I was gonna say poutine too!!! Hilarious, it was “fake” snowing here in Orlando. Kinda miss the real stuff, kinda!
lol fake snow just can’t beat the real stuff!
You know you’re a Canadian Mom when:
One of the first things your child learns to “read” is the logo for Tim Horton’s.
You try to find rhymes to end the ABC song with Zed.
You serve your kids milk from a bag.
good ones Deanna!
Buy milk by the bag
you know french nursery rhymes
you play outside with the kids, hear Skidoos in a distance
we have a lot of skidoos that run behind our house! the kids love it!
Haha! Oh, I LOVE this post, Jen!!! Proud to be a Canadian Mama! xo
Can certainly relate to a lot of these! Why just the other day I did in fact hurl my two year old (at her insistence) off a snow cliff.
You also know you are a Canadian mom (especially in the prairies and in the country) if you are familiar with the concept of putting bread bags in rubber boots. In fact we might need a “You know you are a Saskatchewan mom when…..” list!
lol funny! are the bread bags to keep your feet dry?
Yep! I remember when my cousin was young and her parents had bought her a brand new pair of rubber boots (Strawberry Shortcake I believe). She came home from school in tears because she wanted bread bags in her boots like all of the other kids…..
you have fed your kids Beaver Tails as a treat
mmmmmmm……beaver tails!!!!
LOL! Love it! Proud to be a Canadian mommy!
I love this! I am not Canadian – yet – but my kids are and it sure feels like I am adapting well according to this list. So far I am down to 9 out of 12 on that list, and I’ve been in Canada for 5 years only!
I’d also add maple syrup as a staple for pancakes, and generally cooking and root beer.
Maple syrup is a must right? sounds like we can make you an honorary Canadian!
Love that. I’ll take that title wiith honour 🙂
OK what is a toques? Can you tell I am not Candiaian?
lol a toque is a knitted hat for Winter
Omg I love this! You know you are a Canadian mom from Winnipeg when you still drink Slurpees in -30 degree weather! 😉
lol so funny!
THIS is hilarious!!!
Personally, I know I have at least 100 pairs of gloves.mittens etc and can never find a match.
Dang winters!!! xox
oh I hate that too!
LOL can totally relate to the snow ones here in Vermont!
This list is adorable! I refuse to go outside in the Michigan Winter so no snow for me. haha! I am pretty lame. 🙂
i hate winter!!! lol
I love #3 and #4!! And I remember the first time I heard my Canadian friend say “homo milk.” I was like, what?! lol
it’s so weird right? lol what do you call it there?
Pretty much.. milk. lol Some say cow’s milk and many true southerners call it sweet milk, as opposed to buttermilk, which is slightly more bitter.
This is too funny! Here in the US we do some of these things too!!
