Diaper Genie Elite Reviews – How did it stack up?

Recently I had the opportunity to give away 10 Diaper Genie Elites from Playtex, the 10 lucky winners had the chance to try out the system and report back to me with their thoughts!

Here’s what they said!

Rene -The Diaper Genie Elite is a really useful addition to our home. Those of us with kids understand just how quickly an open (or even closed) pail of diapers can lend a very particular scent to the whole house. With the Diaper Genie Elite this is no longer an issue. The mechanism within the new Elite model is great – I didn’t have to push the diaper down into the pail, as it literally ‘grabbed’ it and pulled it in for me. The added height is a nice feature as my spouse and I are both fairly tall and with small children we do enough bending over as it is! I was pleased to see that the actual amount of plastic waste was quite limited as earlier versions of the Diaper Genie did not seem to have this benefit.
I am a bit concerned about the cost of the refills but haven’t yet gone through a full insert yet – therefore not sure how often we’ll have to replace it. We did decide to use the Diaper Genie Elite for dirty diapers and the old ‘step-can’ for wet diapers to help alleviate this cost, at least until we can gauge how quickly we will need to replace the refill. I loved that the Diaper Genie Elite came with the first insert/refill so that we could use it right away. It was super easy to assemble and I like the ‘cutter’ feature that is included – it means I don’t have to go hunting for scissors each time I need to empty the pail. It takes mere seconds to cut, tie off, pull, and tie off the new bag in order to empty it (getting hubby to take it out to the garbage is separate ;). Time is golden, as we all know. Overall I think this is a great product that parents/caregivers can definitely benefit from. Thanks!

Harvinder – I like the design of the Genie and I find it fairly easy to use and simple to put together.  What I really like it that it contains all the smell of dirty diapers.  It is pretty big so it can hold a lot of diapers and the one hand operation is great.

Mike – Overall we found the Diaper Genie Elite to be a welcome addition to our household. There’s a pedal for stepping one which opens the top lid, then you put in the diaper and release. I was able to do this easily with only one hand, leaving the other free. We didn’t notice any odour at all except occasionally when opening the lid to drop in a diaper. Emptying the Diaper Genie Elite was simple as well. The only drawback that I see is that you have to buy the refills which could add up over the long run. I would recommend this product to anyone considering buying a diaper disposal system.

Francine – I really like the diaper genie. I assembled it myself it was easy. it was also really easy to change the bag. the design is quite nice. with 2 boys going in different directions (1 crawling 1 walking) I am glad i don’t have to worry about them bumping in corners on it or falling on top of it getting hurt..  it is very ls very light and i love that its so easy to use.  my oldest even throws his easy ups and the baby’s diapers in it himself.  it does stink when you open it but the rest of the house doesn’t smell like used diapers anymore which is great. the only thing i really don’t like is that it fills up so fast. (2 or 3 days and its completely full. but my oldest is in size 5 easy ups and my baby is in size 3 pampers) I would give it a 9 out of 10.

Bree – I have been using it for a few days now and it is very easy to use.  Good height, no need to bend over to lift a lid Good height, no need to bend over and I love the fact that it’s hands free! You can just step on the pedal and the lid opens! It keeps the odors at bay for sure – we used to keep a garbage can outside the back door (which was a pain to run out and throw it out after changing so it wouldn’t stink!) It is certainly saving me time and and is a great product. My only issue may be the price of the bag refills – I haven’t seen how fast that we go through them yet though so it is hard to say. I love this product and have already highly recommended it to friends and my mom group (and have purchased one for my friend who is expecting her new arrival any day now!)

Lisa-Marie – After 3 kids, you’d think I’d tried it all in the world of handy gadgets for parenting. But apparently not. I am excited to have a chance to share about the Playtex Diaper Genie Elite, because I’d never used one before!
Although my 3 boys are well out of diapers now, we still have our old diaper pail tucked in the corner at the top of the stairs for the one remaining child with night time pullups. It’s been a well-used pail, short and fat with a broken latch spring. Now, due with boy #4 in a few short months, I’ve been debating what our plan would be in regards to diapering. After deciding that this time around we will use disposables – I was dreading using our old bin again.
Then I got a Diaper Genie Elite. This pail has definitely been designed with a parent’s needs in mind. Tall and sleek, the pail is a great height. It fits perfectly into the corner of our hallway – keeping it out of the way. Instead of needing to bend over (usually with a babe in arms), I can stand up to put that diaper in the pail. Plus the convenience of a foot pedal! Brilliant. Forget the balancing act all together. The set up was easy too – just snap together the body and add the bags and you are all ready to go! I love that there’s a set of pieces designed to pinch the top of the dirty section when the pail is closed, meaning the offensive smell is more contained than our old open-concept pail. Removing the full bag is simple too – just push the button in the middle, flip up the lid, cut the bag and take it out.
I’m excited to make my upcoming baby adventures more simple and convenient.

Angie – I was quite impressed with just HOW MANY diapers the diaper genie holds. Makes life easier than emptying a stinky garbage can on a daily basis.
I love the pedal because when you are holding a little one let’s face it you don’t always have a free hand. Much better than the old design – thanks for the upgrade Playtex!
I would say the diaper genie is a MUST for anyone using disposable diapers.

Melanie – I received this diaper pail to test and I really enjoy it! I was sticking diapers in grocery bags so it’s nice to finally have somewhere to put them.  Assembly of the diaper pail was pretty easy. Just follow the instructions and you are good to go.  The only complaint I have about this pail is that the diapers don’t always fall through into the pail.  I find if they are too light I have to shove them in a bit to get them inside.  Emptying the pail is pretty easy as well.  Just flip the top half open and slide the bag through the cutter! So far its been a great diaper pail.  Love the foot pedal for hands free disposal!

Jamie – Okay, so Ive had a little while to test the Diaper Genie Elite out and I have to say it’s awesome! I LOVE that it’s hands free, so much easier to step on the peddle and not have to bend over and open the lid by hand to toss a diaper. after a pile up of diapers in the canister I still didn’t even notice it at the end of my couch. I couldn’t smell a thing coming from it. This lasted the entire week until garbage day, where I simply took out the bag, refilled it and tossed it onto the curb!
I can’t really say anything horrible or even slightly bad about the diaper genie, I haven’t had it owned it long enough to see any downsides apart from MAYBE it not changing your baby’s diaper for you.

As you can see, my winners were not shy about their thoughts and had a lot to say about the Diaper Genie Elite! Each winner who reported back with a review of their own was put into an additional draw for a $50 Babies R Us Gift Card!!
