Medical Insurance?
Yes, my friends, every time you travel you do need to purchase Travel Medical Insurance, even if you are just popping over the border. The last thing you want is for your dream vacation to turn into your worst nightmare. The risk simply isn’t worth it!
Protection you can’t afford to be without.
Everyone expects their trip to go as planned, but the reality is you just never know what might happen along the way. While you are busy preparing for your March Break get- a-ways this year, don’t forget to plan for the unexpected before you go.
One year my husband and I traveled to New York City. Just hours after arriving, we excitedly headed down to Times Square to check out the scene. While standing at a street corner waiting for the lights to turn, we heard a man yelling behind us, but by the time we turned to look, it was too late. The man’s elderly mother was in a run-away wheel chair that careened right into my legs! While it sounds like a clip from a hysterical movie, the fact is it had the potential to seriously harm both of us and fortunately it didn’t.
From car accidents, to illness, and even random incidents like mine, you can’t predict when you are going to need medical attention and if you aren’t protected with travel medical insurance, it could end up costing you a fortune. Remember that OHIP coverage may not cover you outside of Ontario.
No Excuses.
CAA makes buying Emergency Medical Insurance for the family a breeze!
Choose from a Daily plan or if you travel frequently an Annual plan is a great option!
Annual plans let you buy a package of days – 15 or 30 – to use whenever you please. So rather than purchasing just the 7 days you’ll be away for your spring vacation, it’s a good idea to consider buying 15 days that you can use year-round on sporadic trips for say, cross-border shopping, quick weekend get-aways, or even business events in order to stay protected at a moments notice. All it takes is a phone call to your CAA agent to let them know you will be away.
CAA Members receive a 5% Discount on CAA Travel Insurance Coverage!
Visit the CAA website for more information on Travel Insurance and other great products and services, including Road-Side Assistance.
Travel insurance is too often overlooked, but it is so important when you have young kids. For our last vacation to Disney, we purchased and thought it was worth the few hundred dollars.
On my last vacation out of Canada I made sure to have CAA travel insurance. Luckily I didn’t end up needing it, but it was nice to know I had something to rely on!
it’s a funny thing, you buy it but you never want to end up using it! lol
It’s so important to have! You never want to be away from home without it, whether it’s for day trips or longer.
lovely post very useful to have when we are travelling
Wow! I had no clue CAA offered medical insurance too! Well, I suppose it makes sense! Traveling, you need insurance! LOL! Especially medical insurance! We had a friend from Italy come and he had a bad reaction to mosquitoes and black flies (ummm…the Italian cologne he slathered on himself didn’t help). He ended up having to go to the hospital because his face was so swollen…and he had to pay $400 for a tiny bottle of hospital grade cream (similar to Polysporin)! Yes, insurance is key! 🙂
Wow! How SCARY!! The thought of being attacked by a runaway wheelchair and then the possibility of not having medical coverage if you needed it? Just the thought of it all makes me ill.
I don’t travel outside the states, but assume that my insurance would travel with me! Wow, gives me something to think about in case I ever travel out of country.
it was such a random accident. better safe than sorry right?
My mom has always made us get it. We always got it and never needed it. One time she decided not to get it b/c money was tight, and they ended up wishing they had gotten it. Ever since then she has never went away without it. Ya never know..it’s one of those things people think its useless until something happens.
yup it’s always the time you don’t get it that you will need it!
I pop across the boarder so often I really should get an annual plan. You never know what could happen
It’s true. It’s really better to be safe than sorry, and medical insurance is something you shouldn’t skimp on.
When we were in the military, they stressed this a lot. We often would travel; but our insurance wasn’t always accepted where we went, so we had to ensure we had backups in place incase something happened to us or the kids while we were traveling. It brought a lot of peace of mind.
Cool! This is the first I have heard of this! I used to have AAA, and always felt so safe and protected. I am going to check this out!
I travel all the time and I’ve never purchased travel insurance. I should really look into buying it for my trip to Europe in April. Thanks for sharing.
American Express has a good health insurance plan that offers full coverage for emergency medical treatments with low deductibles for just $10/month (when bought as a 12 month plan).
