Let’s Eat! ~ in Massachusetts! #XploreMass

Last week I shared with you one of my dream beach destinations, the whimsical Cape Cod! And while Massachusetts is The Bay State, and offers a variety of seafood delights from their coasts and inland waterways, that’s not food my family enjoys. I’ve been looking on the MassVacation.com website for other tasty treats our family would love to dive into!

The Pie that’s a Cake

The Boston cream pie was the declared the official dessert of Massachusetts  in 1996, and it wouldn’t be a visit Boston without a stop at Parker’s restaurant for a taste of the original! If you aren’t familiar with the Boston Cream Pie, it consists of two layers of sponge cake that are filled with thick vanilla custard and topped with a chocolate glaze. Knowing how much I love a Boston Cream Donut, this is one dessert I can’t wait to try!

I Scream, You Scream!

There are a number of ice cream shops in Massachusetts, but here’s a couple that caught my eye

Kimball Farm: Westford, Lancaster & Carlisle, MA

The Kimballs turned their woodshed into an ice cream parlour in 1939! Since then their operation has grown substaintially and today they offer over 40 flavours of ice cream including Chocolate Raspberry Swirl, Coffee Turtle and Key Lime Sorbet! The Westford location offers a whole day of fun and activites such as a driving range, nine hole pitch & putt golf course, adventure style mini-golf & a 6000 sq. ft. bumper boat pond, arcade and Grand Slam Batting cages!

 Sundae School: Harwich Port, Dennisport & East Orleans, MA

Sundae School opened its doors in 1976. At the time we were looking for a way a school teacher, his wife and their year old son could spend summers on the Cape and they found it! The secret to their success is making small batches daily,using only the finest ingredients available! It’s said their famous hot fudge sundaes are topped with real whipped cream and a fresh Bing cherry! Other interesting ice cream choice include:  Bass River Mud – a Coffee ice cream with roasted almonds, chocolate chunks, and a fudge stripe and Kahlua Chip- made with Kahlua liquor with chocolate chips ~ Yes please!

Board the Mayflower

Mayflower Brewing Company is a craft beer microbrewery located in historic Plymouth, Massachusetts. Their product line includes a set of year-round beers that honor traditional English ales, seasonal beers that celebrate our New England weather, and small batch releases for try out new ideas. They offer tastings, tours and private events. The setting pictured above looks cozy and romantic!
