It’s true right? there is something so peaceful and relaxing about the beach even with waves pounding the shore! Our family of beach bums spent 4 days at the beach in Florida this Spring and we’ve been itching to get back every day since. Now that Summer weather is FINALLY upon us here in Ontario, we have stolen away to beach here on our home soil, if only we lived closer, we would be there every weekend!
With a family of five we bring a lot of gear with us to the beach. We fill our wagon full of toys, blankets, chairs and a cooler of snacks. When given the opportunity to try out Coleman’s Instant Beach Shade, I was excited! This was definitely something we didn’t have, but at the back of my mind I wondered if it was just something else to drag along to the beach that we probably didn’t need.

As it turns out, it was actually pretty handy to have with us! It provided shade for the kids to rest in and kept our cooler out of the sun as well. We stored our blankets inside and I used the door flap as well as the inside floor to lie out in without my blanket lying in the sand. I would have actually liked to see a way to hold the door flap down once opened as it’s quite windy at the beach and without it secured down it flaps around in the breeze. We solved this by putting our chair legs on either side of it but I saw others with similar designs having the same problem.
The tent would make an excellent spot for the kids to discreetly change, but it’s not tall enough for an adult to stand in. Ontario water ways are a little too cold for Hubs and I, so one of us are usually on shore, but we would have really liked having this tent with us in Florida so we could hide our belongings out of site and hit the waves as a family.
“Instant Shade”
This tent is dubbed the Instant Beach Shade tent because it come with a claim that you can easily set up or taken down in one minute. I’m not going to lie to you, this is a bit of stretch! lol I recommend you give this a try out at home in your backyard before heading off to a windy beach to tackle it for the first time. As a disclaimer, I’m not really the best at putting anything together, but I struggled with this for a while in the yard! Hubs had much better luck than me at the beach but it was still much longer than a minute. Now that we have the hang out it, I predict a smoother set up and take down in the future, but I wouldn’t expect a minute in hot windy conditions at the beach!
Overall, we were happy with Coleman Shade Tent, and will be bringing with us every time we head to the beach. It was convenient to have and held up really well in beach conditions, far better than a standard umbrella. It also makes a fun little play tent for the backyard at home! The Coleman Instant Beach Shade tent can be found at Canadian Tire, London Drugs, Forzani and Le Baron for approximately $100.

We have one for soccer! Loce it.
Very cool idea for the beach! I am not surprised though that it isn’t a minute set up – these things usually aren’t 🙂
I have been eying these up, but I think I will wait until they go on sale big time and grab one then.
maybe at the end of Summer you’ll be able to grab one for a good price!
weird that it costs so much when you can get a full sized tent for less LOL
Oh wow, I am so envious of this! Blows my regular beach umbrella out of the water! I’m going to keep my eye out for one!! THanks for sharing.
I love those Coleman instant beach shades! Sometimes when we’re out all day long with the kids (at the beach, or at a sporting event), the sun is too intense. This looks like a simple solution to implement.
Oh, that is so fun! I love having a shady area at the beach especially on those scorching days; makes the day so much better for the kids!
That’s a great idea- The sun can really burn your skin if you are in it for too long. I will look into to it. I can use it in the backyard too:)
