Summer Reads with Scholastic Canada

Oh those lazy days of Summer, it’s so nice to slow down and relax until someone yells “Mom, I’m bored” lol

One of our favourite lazy Summer activities to curb those boring afternoons is to head outside under the tree with a big blanket and old pillows. Sometimes we even all pile into the empty blow up pool with some pillows too and of course a pile of books!

The Three Little Pigs and the Somewhat Bad Wolf
By Mark Teague

I recognized the art work right away when I saw this book and knew it must be from author and illustrator Mark Teague! We have a few from the How Do Dinosaurs…. series and also Firehouse! so we were already fans! My oldest son did his own version of The Three Little Pigs this year for his first speech, so this was really fun for us to hear another silly version with pigs eating chips and drinking pop and making friends with the wolf!

scholasticNight Light
By Nicholas Blechman

At first glance I thought this was going to be too simple for my boys who are now 4,5 and 7 but as it turns out this was a hit with the younger boys! They read it to each other again and again and it’s what they are doing in the photo above! The book is a bit of a guessing game that incorporates counting and the boys loved quizzing each other on what the next image could be. It’s also really fun with cut out shapes that look through to the next page.

scholasticZoe’s Room
By Bethanie Deeney Murguia

The Boys love the sparkly cover on this book and it’s our second meeting with Zoe and her sister Addie, since we’ve read Zoe Gets Ready before. Our boys share a room so this was a fun book for them to hear of the tales of Addie moving into her big sisters room for the first time.

king pigKing Pig
By Nick Bland

Nick Bland knows how to tell a good story, and King Pig is his newest tale. Poor King Pig can’t figure out why none of the sheep like him. In the end, the noble King starts to figure out that to get people to like you, you should start with being nice! a fun read with an important lesson!

Keep your kids reading this summer!!

The products mentioned above were provided free of charge. Regardless, I was not obligated to feature this item and all opinions expressed belong to Mom vs. the Boys and are not influenced in any way.
