Summer Festivals in Massachusetts #XploreMass

My family loves a good road trip!  Last year we drove to Pennsylvania to make friends with Elmo at Sesame Place and this spring we set out on a  25 hour drive to Florida! My kids always amaze us with how great they are for long drives, so we have no fear of loading the van and taking to the road, in fact, a two hour flight would make me more nervous! Every time we come home from one of our adventures we quickly grab the map to look for our next great road trip, and I was pleasantly surprised to see that Massachusetts is only around 8-9 hours away by car from Toronto!

Summer Festivals in Massachusetts

So what to see and do on a road trip to Mass? It seems they have plenty of festivals to take in throughout the summer!

The Cambridge Arts Festival takes place in early June to showcase emerging and established artists

From July 13th – 20th, the first annual performing arts festival will turn public spaces like the Boston Common and City Hall Plaza into performance spaces, with over 200 events showcasing the best of Boston and Massachusetts all for Free!

The Arts Foundation of Cape Cod presents the Pops by the Sea concert every August, featuring the Boston Pops Esplanade Orchestra. The annual Pops by the Sea concert is the main fundraiser for the Arts Foundation of Cape Cod, and is a summertime tradition for thousands of families.

Need a good laugh? The Nantucket Comedy Festival starts July 17th with a winning line up of a night with funny women, the humour of the Simpsons, and Boston/NY smackdown night! Sounds like a fun event!

The Roxbury International Film Festival continues to showcase and honor the work of emerging and established filmmakers of color and has become the largest New England film festival dedicated to this genre. Takes place late June.

The Plymouth Waterfront Festival happens in August and is abundant in arts and crafts booths and has two stages of live entertainment, better still, it’s free!

Green River Festival takes place the weekend of July 20th in Franklin County and showcases  musicians, food, arts and crafts and even hot air balloons!

  1. I love your blog and hailing from MA I particularly liked this post. I live in rural western ma who’d love to welcome your family :). If you have time the beautiful Quabbin Resevoir is nice to see and they have a quaint museum. The story behind all the towns that were taken by imminent domain and flooded so Boston could have water (even today) is pretty fascinating. If you don’t get to see it I encourage you to look it up. Pretty interesting. The Norman Rockwell museum is nice too. There are a lot of cool festivals in the Berkshires and the valley. I know us in Western Ma would live to have your family!
