Beautiful. Natural. Warm ~ Glerups

Is it just me, or is fall in the air already?? Doesn’t seem fair does it? We hardly had any summer at all this year, and while fall has always been my favourite season, I don’t think I’m ready to give up summer just yet!

Whatever the weather, I wear my slippers every single day! I do, I hate having cold feet and I hate walking on hard floors, so I’m a slipper wearer all year round. This of course means I go through a lot of slippers and know what I like.

Recently, I was introduced to Glerups, which is a felt shoe from Denmark. They come in the form of a short boot, shoe or slipper, all very similar but in varying heel heights. Glerups are hand made using 100% pure wool and have soft natural leather soles. There are a number of colour choices from neutrals like Black, Brown and Grey to fun and funky Red, Purple, Blue and Orange.

I chose the slipper because that’s my favourite style and knowing how dirty and dog hairy my previous slippers can get, I picked out a nice black. Wool is naturally self cleaning, which is great, but these slippers can also be washed by hand with some warm soapy water if needed. I could tell these were well made slippers right away, they look and feel extremely durable! At $89.95 they are more than I would normally spend on slippers, but I have a feeling these will outlast any other pair I’ve owned.

It’s suggested to wear the Glerups with bare feet, but being 100% wool, I found them to be a little bit itchy. Not as bad as I was expecting them to be, but still a little itchy and I prefer to keep my socks on. No doubt about, glerups are warm and cozy and perfect for wearing around the cottage or cool winter evenings at home!

POST UPDATE:

It’s been 8 years since I received these slippers for review from Glerups and I don’t normally go back all these later and update a post but because I still get traffic to this post every year and because I am STILL wearing these felt slippers I thought it warranted one.

When I predicted that these slippers would outlast any others I was completely right. I wear these slippers almost every day and they are still holding up remarkably well. The felt slipper itself is still in perfect condition. The leather bottoms were soft and white when I received them and eight years later as you could expect they are now a beige colour and smooth and shiny. There are a few holes that have worn into the bottoms but that hasn’t affected the felt underneath.

I noticed in my original review that I commented on the wool being itchy. This is no longer the case. I don’t find them itchy in the slightest and I do wear them with bare feet often.

The Glerups wool slippers do cost more than your average slipper but I think they are well worth the money and I would buy another pair again. They truly stand the test of time!
