First Alert’s new Atom smoke alarm delivers maximum protection in a micro design

October is Fire Safety Month! Time to test/replace your alarms!

First Alert is a brand name my family has known and trusted for years. Every floor of our house is equipped with at least one smoke alarm, but sometimes it can be hard to find just the right place to install one. Obviously, safety comes first and the unit needs to go where it will work the best, but at the same time, aesthetics come into play too. Items like smoke alarms used to be a bit of an eye sore, but not anymore! First Alert has a few new products that might surprise you!

First Alert Atom

Atom Smoke Alarm

Check out this little guy! He kind of looks like a mini storm trooper up there doesn’t he? He may be small in size, but he’s big on protection!

The First Alert Atom is protection at its finest. Its micro design adds an element of style to safety. This photoelectric alarm is a fraction of the size of a standard alarm and provides all the necessary protection to help keep your family and your home safe.

The Atom is about the size of an egg, or as you can see from the photo above, smaller than a tea light candle. It’s sitting on a shelf for comparison purposes, but to work properly the unit still needs to be installed on the ceiling or high on the wall. It has an incredibly long-life lithium battery that comes included with the device and boasts maximum protection for your family with fewer false alarms.

Designer Series smoke and CO alarm

You’ll love how thin and sleek looking this alarm is, plus it does double duty as a Carbon Monoxide alarm But what’s really cool about this alarm is that it has Voice and Location Technology! Not only will an alarm sound, but it will tell you the location and type of potential danger! How cool is that? This one is wall mounted on the wall with an included bracket.

Photoelectric sensors

Let’s talk for a minute about this fancy word! Photoelectric is a fun word isn’t it? Both of the above units have this technology and basically what it means is that they are more sensitive at detecting large particles, which tend to be produced in greater amounts by smoldering fires. These fires may smolder for hours before bursting into actual flame, and can be caused by something like a cigarette burning on a couch or bed. Which by the way, is exactly the reason one of my neighbourhood houses is completely destroyed and boarded up. Pretty scary.

So what did we learn here? 1. Don’t smoke (for many reasons) and 2. You want First Alert on your side!

To help Canadians get ready for Fire Safety Month, First Alert is giving The Atom alarm away each day of the month on their Facebook page!
