Babymoov – The bag of bags.

* My baby reviewer Diane test drives the gorgeous Babymoov Diaper Bag*

It never fails, I’m late, and as I’m running out the door, I realize I forgot to grab diapers, wipes, and a change of clothes… and a receiving blanket, and a soother, and a snack, water…. the list goes on. I grab the stuff and search for a bag big enough – usually a cloth grocery bag – throw everything in and finally manage to get out the door. Not bad right? Until you actually have to get something from the bag. You have to dig through it in search of what you need as half of the stuff falls out and it’s incredibly frustrating and difficult to do with a wiggly baby, an active 2 yr old, and a 5 and 6 yr old who are being anything but patient.

This is how I’ve been doing things since my first and only diaper bag I’ve ever owned, broke during use with my second child. I never bothered to buy another – it was just an expensive grocery bag – a large opening with an outer pocket. And chances were it was going to break in a year or two anyway.

So I was excited about trying out the Babymoov Free Hand Nappy Diaper bag. I’ll admit that I was a little cynical based on my previous experience with diaper bags. But it was gorgeous, and I couldn’t wait to put it to the test.

First impressions mean a lot, and this bag looks GOOD! I had a few people comment “what a gorgeous bag! Where’d you get it?” They didn’t even know it was a diaper bag! One of my trips out using it was to a mommy group I attend…. The other ladies fell in love with it, and we spent some time comparing the Babymoov to some of their bags.  The Babymoov had some of the best features. My favourite being the removable change pad. Yes, other diaper bags have change pads… but not like this! This one folds out into a large changing surface (big enough to use with my 2 yr old) and it has it’s own belt to help secure your baby. The area where your baby’s head rests has extra padding for comfort – I really liked that. The best part is that it has a zippered compartment that I could carry a few wipes and a diaper in. I love that I can easily unclip the change pad from the bag and use the shoulder strap from the bag (which unclips easily as well), and attach it to the change pad. This way if I’m just running out for a quick trip to the store I don’t have to carry the whole bag, but I can quickly grab my essentials, throw it over my shoulder and be on my way.

It has many other great features too. The clips for the attachments are great because they can be attached/removed one handed. It comes with a little cooler that has it’s own section on the inside – it’s perfect for packing snacks and drinks. It has a large open area that can fit A LOT of stuff, which is great since I have a lot of stuff. It also has a long narrow compartment, which I use for carrying books, my daughters homework, mail, anything that needs to be kept flat. It also comes with a soother pouch (which I keep clipped to the outside of the bag for easy access) and with two clear zippered pouches which I find all kinds of uses for.

It’s a big bag, but I love that since I’m packing for four.

Here’s what I packed in it for going to visit my parents:

• a pair of pajamas for each of the older kids, and two pairs for the baby

• 2 receiving blankets

• a favourite book – which always travels with us

• my daughter’s homework

• my son’s school pictures

• a large water bottle

• four cloth diapers

• two Pull-Ups

• a bag of wipes

• a soother

• my wallet

• my phone

I only needed to bring the one bag. JUST ONE BAG! I’m still in shock that it all fit. Was it heavy? Yes. But one heavy bag is far easier to carry than trying to carry 3 bags with the same combined weight. I love that everything has a place and I can easily grab what I need with no rummaging around. Also, since the bag has a clasp, not a zipper, I could still close it. The clasp is easy to use one handed; can you tell that I’m a big fan of being able to do things one handed?

When the bag isn’t packed so fully, I find that it has a tendency to lean/fall to the side that has the change pad clipped to it. I find that a little annoying, but it’s easily fixed by tossing the change pad inside the bag.

Overall, this bag is great. It looks good, it’s very durable and quite frankly I’ve come to love it and don’t leave the house without it!
