Our family hairstylist has been unavailable for one reason or another lately and just before the holidays we found ourselves stuck with a couple shaggy haired kids and no where to take them. I have wielded scissors at my boys lovely locks before, but I’m the first to admit I haven’t a clue as to what I am doing, and was not going to risk it right before all the holiday photos that were about to be snapped. We ended up in the city one afternoon for a movie and pulled into the First Choice haircutters lot, they must cut at lot of kids hair right? How bad could they be?
Okay, I don’t have enough ‘strong’ words available for how awful this experience was! I saw a few kids before us come out with shaved heads and mohawks, and I secretly cringed but hey, if that’s what they wanted. The staff themeselves had the craziest hair I’ve ever seen in wild colours and styles, and we were all a little bit nervous. My 5 year almost refused to get in the chair. The boys came out looking like the younger brothers of the characters from Dumb and Dumber!! We were NOT impressed! I’m completely convinced I would have done a better job and home and needless to say, I stuck a santa hat on their heads every time I snapped a picture that holiday and vowed to never to go back. Sigh……if only we had a Melonheads Salon near us!

We do adult cuts at Melonhead as well! We call them Mom and Dad cuts. And don’t worry, we have regular salon chairs too, so you don’t have to sit in a car or plane 🙂

my 10 month old, my hubby has been bugging me for weeks now but I can’t do it!
haha I know the feeling! My husband used to bug me too but I let it grow right into curls before I did the first cut on the boys!
That is so easy, both my hubby and my son need a hair cut.
My son needs a cut now. I used to take my boys to First Choice but would come home and have to fix the cuts. every time. Awful. I got so frustrated that I taught myself to do a full scissor cut and did a much better job than they do. Pretty scary when they’re supposed to be trained.
I know right? it was so frustrating! I need to learn to do a proper job!
My 2.5 yr old had his first haircut at Melonheads a year ago and it was an awesome experience! Worth every penny. He could use another haircut now!

I highly recommend for first haircut. They take a photo and put it on a certificate with a lock of hair! I also once took Oliver to MagicCuts as a last resort and it was terrible! Worst haircut ever!
I love how they celebrate the first cut, it’s a pretty big milestone! they look so grown up after that!
