If you’re digging around for ideas for a construction themed party, you’re in luck!

Construction truck parties are a solid choice. Jennifer Carver from the blog Spaceships and Laser Beams is sharing tips you can build on for your own celebration.

Caution:  You are entering the party construction zone.  Hard hats optional.  Ideas for invitations, party decorations, refreshments, activities and favors are coming at you!

Roll out awesome invitations

Get the excitement for your construction truck themed party rolling with an awesome invitation.  Whether you use a store bought invitation, craft a truck shaped invitation out of card stock or print a graphic designed version from your computer, be sure the construction truck theme is shared from the beginning.

If guests might be getting dirty, be sure to let parents know to dress their children in clothes appropriate for the activities. Consider decorating the envelope with caution tape inspired Washi tape, or attach a small construction truck toy to generate enthusiasm.

Construct an exciting party zone

Building on the excitement from the invitations, think about how you’d like to construct the party zone.  Depending on the time of year your celebration is held, the location and weather, you may have the option to host your party outside.  Are you near a park with a sandbox for digging? Do you have land with gravel pits or dirt piles?  Perhaps your own backyard can be transformed for the event?  If holding the event outdoors is not an option, choose a room in your home with the most space for playing.

Picture a construction zone in your head.  Did you envision caution tape, hard hats, tools, construction trucks, piles of dirt, rocks, pylon cones, saw horses and industrial building materials?  Take these images and transform your party and refreshment space in the same fashion.  You may already have some of these items stashed in your garage.

Designate your party zone by using caution tape and construction cones.  Set up a hard hat and vest area where guests can get properly outfitted for the fun to come (you can easily find hard hats and construction vests at dollar stores and party shops). Collect construction truck toys to use as both décor and at activity centers.  Consider using plywood on saw horses for your refreshment table.  Add industrial looking building materials or tools, such as hammers, a toolbox or faux metal accents.

Build a hardy refreshment table

Refreshments are a big part of any party, and building a dessert table with a construction truck theme in mind can be accomplished easily.  Orange, yellow and black scream construction truck.  Carrying some of the ideas from your party zone to the refreshment zone will not only help create an amazing display, but will also work to tie the party areas together.

Construction truck toys can make great props or can be used as an effective and inexpensive cake topper.  Cookies with favorite construction truck shapes can be frosted and displayed on a bed of brown sugar “dirt”.  Donuts look a whole lot like truck tires.  How about serving dirt cups or chocolate candy “wrecking balls”?  And don’t forget the “nuts and bolts” (pretzels, nuts, marshmallows, etc…).

Let guests play hard

Some easy activity options include wrapping leftover boxes in brick, wood or stone paper and letting kids knock them down, wrecking ball style.  Or, how about filling up a sandbox with diggers and dump trucks and letting kids go wild?  Coloring pages and puzzles are always a popular activity.  Another possibility is to set up a “construction zone” with simple kits for building a small take home favor (bird house, toolbox, etc.).

Send guests truckin’ home with a party favor

Favors don’t have to be expensive.  Some ideas include truck shaped lollipops, a coloring book or even a small construction truck toy.  Perhaps your guests will take home a favor bag of treats from the dessert table or even their hard hat.  Whatever you choose, attach a simple favor tag with a cute tag line such as, “Thanks for making my party a load of fun!”
