I love a good peanut butter cookie, it reminds me of being a kid! It’s such a classic cookie with the traditional criss cross pattern and soft baked goodness, made with simple ingredients. But times change and new products find their way onto store shelves, like chocolate peanut butter! As if peanut butter couldn’t get any better! It’s the best thing since Nutella (which would probably work just as good in this recipe!). I decided to bake a favourite peanut cookie recipe with the Reese’s chocolate peanut butter spread, for chocolate peanut butter cookies because everything’s better with chocolate, am I right? The kids couldn’t get enough of these, and neither could I!
Chocolate Peanut Butter Cookies
Ingredients
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened to room temperature
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 3/4 cup light brown sugar
- 2 eggs
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1 cup chocolate peanut butter
- 3 cups + 2 Tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/3 cup granulated sugar, for rolling (optional)
Directions
Preheat oven to 350F degrees. Line two large baking sheets with parchment paper or silicone baking mats
Using a hand mixer, cream the softened butter and both sugars together on medium speed until smooth. Add both eggs and mix on high until combined. Add the vanilla and chocolate peanut butter and mix until combined. Set aside.
In a separate bowl, mix the flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt together. Add to the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and mix on low until combined. Cover dough tightly and chill anywhere from half an hour, up to 2 days in the refrigerator.
Roll balls of dough, about 1.5 tablespoons of dough per cookie. If you desire, pour 1/3 cup of granulated sugar into a small bowl and lightly roll the balls into the sugar. Place 2 inches apart on the baking sheets. Press fork into the tops to create the classic criss-cross pattern.
Bake for 11 minutes or until very lightly browned on the sides. Remove from oven and let cool on baking sheet for about 5 minutes. Transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
This recipe makes just over 40 cookies, 44 to be exact on this batch!

These were amazing warm right out of the oven like most baking is, but I was happy to find that they stayed soft and chewy and just as good at room temperature days later!
The peanut butter taste still shone through in this recipe, but if you are a looking for a true classic peanut butter cookie, go ahead and use your regular jar of peanut butter for these sweet morsels, they will be just as good the old fashioned way!
