At the end of June, the kid’s school put on an Art Night for the parents and community. Each student from every grade showcased a favourite piece of artwork they had done throughout the year.
The kids were excited, especially my little guy in Sr. Kindergarten. He couldn’t keep it a surprise and let me know before the big day that he had made a picture of a rainbow.
Art Night came and we made our way into the gym….errr….gallery. I spotted some rainbows right away, so we went over to check out Little Buddy’s beautiful rainbow first and then moved on to the see the rest. There were some really impressive submissions to see!
The Kindergarten teacher came over to chat when she saw me.
“Oh, Jennifer” she said “isn’t his rainbow just beautiful!?”
I agreed it was really pretty.
She went on to tell me that the kids were only given the three primary colours to complete their pictures, and my guy figured out right away he could mix the colours to make other colours and created this lovely rainbow. I mentioned I saw some other nice rainbows in there and she told me that once the other boys got sight of his rainbow, they wanted to make one too.
“Did you see what he named it?” She asked.
I hadn’t. His was the first picture we saw and I hadn’t noticed that the art work had titles until I had seen the middle boys Cardinal picture called ‘Break Dancer’.
“Well, you just have to go see” she says, “I’m not going to tell you, but it really is special!”.
Okay, now this I’ve got to see, so we made our way back to the beginning to take a look at what he had chosen to name his art.
And there it was;
Name: ‘Little Buddy’
Class: SK
Media: Paint
Title: Peace Work
“Oh wow! That is so sweet buddy, you named it ‘Peace Work’?”
Honestly, ‘Break Dancer’ is more my kids’ style, this was a bit of a surprise coming from a feisty five year old boy.
“yeah, piece a work” he says
hmmmm…..what was that?
“Piece a work” he says again
“Piece of work?” I ask
“Yup, piece a work” he shrugs
Yeah, this was more like my kid! At least the teacher was impressed lol
“You know what else is a piece of work Buddy?”
“You are!”
