Go Ask Dad

My husband and I were having a conversation about dads the other day, when I shared with him that growing up we never had to hire help for jobs around the house. My dad being a bit of a jack-of-all-trades was skilled enough to complete almost any fix or renovation our family was working on and if he couldn’t do it alone for a big job like roofing the house, for example, his buddies pitched in to help. Men of my dad’s age seemed to have the knowledge and skills that many young men today just don’t have, my brother certainly never picked these up from my dad along the way and his son won’t have to opportunity to learn them from him either.

Go Ask Dad

With technology at our fingertips today we are far more likely to google a question or watch a youtube video for a quick DIY tutorial than ask our parents for help. From simple things like how to tie a tie or cook and egg to the tough stuff, Dads are experts and have the personal touch.

This video is a sweet one!

I’m fortunate that my husband also is skilled in many different areas and with any luck my boys will be willing to learn from their dad as they grow into young men.

To take your gifting game to the next level, why not get dad a subscription to www.GilletteShaveClub.ca so he never has to worry about going out to buy blades again.

So do you think your boys will learn anything from their grandmother? Like how to cook, bake, sew etc? Its funny how we still shove genders into a neat little box…boys should learn how to fix a roof, etc…I know I’m guilty of doing that myself

They will need to learn how to sew from their dad because he’s not too bad at it but I don’t have a clue. There are so many things they can learn from both parents but this post is for Father’s Day which is timely for celebrating dads.

  2. It’s so interesting to see the generation gap in that context. I know my stepdad could do most things himself as well

I learned a lot of skills from my Dad growing up since I was always his little helper. I am lucky that hubby is also very handy but I still get in there and help too. But I also have to admit that I do watch You Tube videos too!

My father was very handy around the house as was my brother. They both liked working with wood and my brother was also into electrics too. I can do a bit, I built my own bed and a large living room cupboards years ago. My children won’t have many of these talents as they could only learn from me and with 7 kids there wasn’t much time to do anything really. One of my daughters has an extremely handy husband who can do most anything around the house and the cars too.
