With the carefree days of summer behind us children may start to have the stresses of back to school time creep back into their lives. Let’s face it, returning to class with new teachers, new schedules and making new friends is really tough stuff for our little ones and it could trigger nighttime bed wetting.
Wetting the bed can be an embarrassing issue among kids, but it’s actually very common. It’s believed that up to 15% of five-year-olds and 8% of 8-year-olds experience nighttime wetting and that more than 5 million children experience it. Because bedwetting is more common in boys than girls (experts estimate the ratio as roughly 2 boys to 1 girls), I wanted to share a few tips for my fellow boymoms to help your child keep dry through the night.
Nighttime dryness is a subconscious skill that cannot be “taught” or “practiced.” What happens when a child is asleep simply isn’t within their control, but here are 4 tips that can help children cope with nighttime wetting
1. Be Supportive: Find ways to talk about nighttime wetting to eliminate the ‘secrecy’
2. Fluid Monitoring: Help children focus on hydrating in the day and quenching thirst at night
3. Routine Development: Encourage regular bathroom visits to minimize holding urine
4. Maximize Comfort Overnight: Use absorbent products designed to help children sleep easy and stay dry, such as GoodNites® TRU-FIT Underwear, GoodNites® Bed Mats or GoodNites® Bedtime Pants
The back-to-school season can be stressful for everyone, especially for young children who are predisposed to nighttime wetting. Let children know that nighttime wetting doesn’t have to get in the way of their social life, GoodNites® products offer discreet protection. The [easyazon_link identifier=”B00I9R6W0S” locale=”US” tag=”m0dd5d-20″ localize=”y”]GoodNites® Bed Mats[/easyazon_link] are very thin but hold a lot of liquid. They stick either on top of your sheets or you can even place them under the bottom sheet so they are out of site. These could be particularily handy when travelling to visit relatives or when staying in hotels. Sometimes being away from home can also trigger a bit of anxiety and those beds won’t have any mattress protection available. This is just a little peace of mind for both you and your little one.
These bed mats are handy to have around, we have used them too when the flu bug hits to help protect beds/couches etc from vomit. Also have used them to protect surfaces while training the new puppy…lol!
oh great ideas!
My little guy could use these. We are still working on potty training.
Bed mats are just brilliant!
we were lucky enough that we didn’t need them, but I’m always telling friends about bed mats now….
Those bed mats are such a good idea!
We are just starting to potty train so I am very happy that they have products like this! It’s so helpful to have, in case accidents do happen
Those are really great to have on hand !
I used bed mats too and that’s nearly 40 yrs ago. 🙂
I’m so glad they have these. They really come in handy.
We use these as our second option. We have a mattress pad that we use on a regularly basis. When that gets wet, we use the GoodNites. We also use the night diapers from the same brand.
Bed mats seem to make things so much easier and saves on all the washing!
