Christmas Broken Glass Jello Squares

Jell-O really stands the test of time, it’s been around for years and years and everyone from babies to great grandparents love it. My parents still love those small town restaurants that offer jello or rice pudding for dessert and Grandma will add jello to just about every meal that the grandkids are attending. It’s a win-win all around.

The problem with Jello is it’s, well, jiggly! It really needs to be served in a bowl or it will run all over your plate and it’s impossible to scoop.

Unless…..I give you Jello squares! This Christmas Jello is a broken glass holiday version and so festive for the season. Of course, you can make these in any colour/flavour you want but for Christmas we went with a classic red, white and green.

Ingredients:

  • 1 box cherry jello
  • 1 box lime jello
  • 2 packets unflavored gelatin
  • 14 ounce can sweetened condensed milk
  • 2 cups hot water

Directions

Prepare red and green jello according to package instructions. Chill overnight. I used two 8×8 dishes to make the red and green jello.

Cut the red and green jello into cubes. Tip: Keep a glass of hot water handy to dip your knife in as you cut. It will help slice nice lines.

Lightly oil a 9×13 baking dish with cooking spray and arrange green and red jello cubes in bottom.

Mix both envelopes of the unflavored gelatin into 2 cups of hot water and stir.

Pour in condensed milk and whisk together. Allow to cool, do not pour the hot mixture over the jello cubes.

Pour the cooled mixture over the cubed Jello so they are all covered.

Refrigerate overnight.

Cut into squares, again, dip your knife into hot water for smooth cuts.

The best part about this jello, besides the really cool design of course, it that you can pick it up and it will hold together. No more runny jello, but it will still give you a jiggle as all jello should! You can still eat it with a spoon or fork if you choose, but others might prefer to just pick it right up and take a bite.

My gram was a big jello fan too. She made it for us kids all the time. My mom has a old recipe of some kind of jello cake. I love it too. Although I don’t make it enough. Green jello is my favourite

I love making colourful jello jigglers especially at Christmas time but this Broken Glass recipe looks much better. I’ll be making it this season.

    14. I love these! They are so colorful and I know they would be a big hit with my grandchildren.

    15. Can these be frozen??

    16. Will this work if you put this in different molds? For example a bun cake pan (wreath shaped) or must you use a flat pan and cut into squares?

That is something I’ve never tried. I have no experience with jello molds, if you give it a try let me know how it works out.
