Whether you run a daycare or are just home with the kids, these Ice Cream Songs for preschoolers are a fun addition to your circle time or play time.
Before I was a mom, I was an Early Childhood Educator, so my boys were born into a house full of puppets, songs and activities for kids. Lucky them! My circle time box was one of their favourite items to pull out and play with and it provided our family with hours of fun.
To make these fun felt props to go with the ice cream songs, see below for instructions and a free printable template!
Ice Cream Songs for Preschoolers
Ice Cream Shop
Down at the corner
At the ice cream shop
There were 5 little ice creams
Waiting to be bought
Along came _____ all alone (insert child’s name)
And he picked up a _____ one (insert colour)
And he took it home. (repeat until all 5 ice creams are gone)
*Lay all 5 ice cream cones in the middle of the circle, when you sing the child’s name, they come and pick one.

Hmmm two scoops of ice cream,
I want more
How about three?
No, make that four!

Splat! “oh no! It’s on the floor!”
Ice Cream Cones
Sung to: “Mary Had a Little Lamb”
We all want an ice cream cone, ice cream cone, ice cream cone
We all want an ice cream cone, we’ll eat it right away.
Chocolate is our favourite kind, favorite kind, favorite kind
Chocolate is our favourite kind, we’d eat it every day.
(add as many flavor verses as you like – have the children tell you their favourites)

Take Me Out For Some Ice Cream
Sung to: “Take Me Out To The Ballgame”
Take me out for some ice cream,
Take me out to the store.
Buy me a triple scoop jumbo cone.
I won’t share, I’ll eat it alone!
For its scoop, scoop ,scoop up the ice cream–
Give me three kinds I adore!
For it’s one, two, three, scoops to go
At the ice cream store!
On Top Of My Sundae
Sung to: “On Top of Spaghetti”
On top of my sundae
All covered with sauce
I lost my poor cherry
It really got lost.
It rolled off the table
And onto the floor
And then my poor cherry
It rolled out the door.
It rolled to the garden
And under a bush
And then my poor cherry
It turned into mush.
If you like your sundae
All covered with sauce
Hold onto your cherry
Or it will be lost.
5 Ice Cream Cones
Five little ice cream cones so good to eat.
The first one said, “I’m a summer time treat.”
The second one said, “It’s such a hot day.”
The third one said, “I’m melting away.”
The fourth one said, “Don’t lose your top.”
The fifth one said, “Oh dear , ker-plop!” (Place the last cone upside down.)
5 Ice Cream Cones
Five ice cream cones at the ice cream shop
But no one wanted to buy them with vanilla on top
One little icecream took some time to think
He mixed in some bubblegum and turned himself to pink
Little (child’s name) came along and took that yummy ice cream home
Four ice-cream cones at the ice cream shop
But no one wanted to buy them with vanilla on top
Then one little icecream knew what he should do
He mixed in some blueberries and turned his flavour to blue
Little (child’s name) came along and took that yummy ice-cream home
Three little ice creams at the ice cream shop
But no one wanted to buy them with vanilla on top
One little ice cream was a smart little fellow
He mixed in some lemonade and turned himself to yellow
Little (child’s name) came along and took that yummy ice cream home
Two Little Ice Cream cones at the ice-cream shop
But no one wanted to buy them with vanilla on top.
One little ice-cream got an idea in his head
He mixed in some raspberries and turned his color to red.
Little (child’s name) came along and took that yummy ice-cream home
One little ice-cream at the ice-cream shop
But no one wanted to buy it with vanilla on top
Alone and sad, he really wanted to go,
So he mixed in all the colors and made his shade rainbow!
These ice cream songs for preschoolers are fun on their own but even more fun for the kids with props that they can hold and play with.
I made mine out of felt because it’s durable and won’t wrinkle, bend or tear in little hands. Use this template I’ve provided and cut the cone portion out of brown material and the ice cream portion out of 5 different colours. Use a brown marker to draw diagonal lines on the cone part. If you are using felt like I did, use a hot glue gun to attached the ice cream to the cone, it should overlap a bit. If you are using paper, regular craft glue will be fine.
I like to print the songs and poems onto recipe cards and keep them together with the ice cream cone props in a ziploc style bag. I do this method for each activity to keep my circle time bin organized.

What lovely songs, the only thing that could make them better was if at the end each got an ice cream.
I can see that your son enjoyed these songs without though, he’s adorable.
That’s a great idea!
We had loads of fun singing this with my granddaughter this weekend, she can’t wait for tomorrow to tell her friends!
