My Lil’ Dude just turned 5 and to help make the occasion special, I surprised him at school with some funky Tie Dye Cupcakes for his Kindergarten class! He was really excited and the class loved them!!
Here’s how they go….
Grab any box of white cake mix and mix as directed.
Separate batter into 4-6 bowls evenly (I used 6)
Colour each bowl a different colour using bold food colouring, I went with yellow, orange, pink, purple, green and blue
Drop a spoonful of each one into a cupcake liner, you’ll want to be about 3/4 full when all colours are in
Bake as directed on box
They look really psychedelic like this, but cupcakes need icing right? otherwise their muffins! lol
I decided to go with plain white icing to cover them all and then I took gel icing (comes in skinny tubes) and made tie dye type patterns by dragging a toothpick through the gel design. The starburst looked particularly fun!
There you have it, Groovy Tie Dye Cupcakes!
You could easily make a full cake using the same method as well. Be Creative!!
