Scholastic Makes a Perfect Gift for Kids of all Ages!

My boys get a number of books each Christmas, they might get one or two holiday books before the holiday so we can enjoy them leading up to Christmas Day and the Big Guy in Red, always brings each boy a new book to read!
If you are looking for a last minute gift for a child of any age, just head to your local book store! Books are a wonderful way for kids to grow and learn and have fun at the same time!

Here are a few great choices from Scholastic Canada for a Hockey Lover on your list!

Scholastic

The Big Game
By Gilles Tibo ~ Illustrated by Bruno St-Aubin
Ages 3 to 8

It’s the championship game and Nicholas’ team is facing the best team in the league. With advice flying faster than pucks, can Nicholas keep his cool and come up with the perfect winning strategy?
This book reminds me how much pressure we put on our young hockey players, everyone is shouting advice, cheers, and game plays at the boys and they are so overwhelmed they can’t play well! Nicholas comes up with a plan to block all the noise out and it works! He let’s his team in on the plan and they end up winning the game!

Over at the Rink
By Stella Partheniou Grass, Illustrated by Scot Ritchie
Ages 3-8

Join in the fun as the whole town cheers on the home team on a sunny winter day at the rink. Set to the catchy rhythm of the traditional counting rhyme Over in the Meadow, Over at the Rink is the perfect way to count all the reasons we love hockey.
My boys are very familiar with the rhyme, Over in the Meadow. We have a couple of books from different eras that feature that rhyme so it was fun to see the same pattern here with a new and fun hockey rhyme!

Crosby’s Golden Goal
By Mike Leonetti, Illustrated by Gary McLaughlin
Ages 6-10

Hockey games and hockey practices. Power skating and summer hockey. Tyler loves hockey, but he feels like it’s taken over his life. He just wants the chance to hang out with his friends. So he decides to take a break, though he still follows the games and his favourite player, Sidney Crosby. Then Tyler gets the chance to be in the stands for one of the most memorable games — and goals — of a lifetime, and he realizes just how much he misses the game.
This story reminded me of why we didn’t sign up my boys for hockey, we want them to learn to skate but were aren’t interested in their lives being consumed with hockey and taking over the family calendar. I love that Mike created this story around one of Canada’s proudest Olympic moments though, I don’t think any of us will forget that goal for years to come! A powerful moment for our nation! So glad to be able to share the tale with my boys through this story!

These are all really great stories for a Hockey Fan in your life this Winter!
