Making Little Big Impressions

* My reviewer Diane had the pleasure of creating a sweet keepsake ornament from Little Big Impressions! *

Like most parents, we’ve done handprints and footprints of the kids with paint, and in casting moulds… all cute, but lacking the true details we were trying to capture. Those were our only choices though… or so I thought. Then I got to try Little Big Impressions.

With Christmas coming I knew I had to make a “my first Christmas” ornament for our newest arrival. I had been putting it off because of scheduling issues and the amount of time it takes to make one. Our new baby boy is number four for us, so we have a lot of schedules to work around and time is limited! In the past we did painted footprint ornaments – cute, but messy, and a little awkward. So I jumped at the chance to try something new.

Little Big Impressions’ ornaments are very cute, and best of all, since I’m in the GTA, Veselina came right to my home to do the impression! It doesn’t get better or easier than that. I’m usually a DIY kind of person, but footprints of a baby can be tricky and I didn’t want to mess it up (like I have in the past)… so we organized an appointment time that fit my schedule.

Veselina was on time, prepared, and super nice. I got to see examples of her work (I’m a huge fan of seeing samples of someone’s art, and hers were even better in person). We discussed what I wanted the ornament to say, the colours and fonts I wanted (which she had samples of too), and if I wanted a handprint or footprint. Once decisions were made and my information was taken, we moved on to taking the actual impression. I held my little boy while Veselina pressed his foot into the clay – definitely a two person job, I was very glad that she was there to do it! And that was it! I don’t think it took a whole 15 minutes from start to finish. I was very surprised by how quick it was. And as someone who’s done painted prints, can I say how awesome it was to just pull off his sock, do the impression, and put his sock right back on without even waking him up?! No mess to clean up… it was amazing!

A few weeks later I received my finished piece in the mail. I’m very pleased with it, and I’ve had many compliments on it already. I love it! Now I wish I would have known about this when my older three were babies!

Veselina’s works of art are gorgeous; they really capture the detail in the prints. I can see a set of family prints in our future!
