Focus for 2014

I never make new year’s resolutions.T hat would be putting far too much pressure on myself, and well I don’t like disappointing myself. lol. I’m not big on ‘hard goals’ and creating deadlines. So when the new year roles around, I definitely get excited about all the possibilities and opportunities, the fresh calendar can bring, but I have a hard time writing down and setting goals for myself.

It’s good to have a focus though right? To make sure you are starting out the year knowing where you want to go and reflecting on where you are coming from. I saw lots people mention that they are adopting one word for their new year, and focusing on that. It sounded good, but choosing one word seemed difficult and setting out a path to achieve success with that one word seemed daunting. Again, would I just fail at even one simple word?

And then I saw this:

resolution

It’s something I had repinned on pinterest some time ago and stumbled on again this week. This was IT! This simple quote right here, was exactly my attitude on the beginning of the new year and my focus for 2014!

All of it. every word. it’s perfect exactly as it is and sums up everything I’m looking for in 2014!

So no resolutions, no goals to break just the simplicity of hoping for a few good adventures, positive energy, the chance to grow a little and learn a little and laugh with some good people along the way. That’s a successful year. That’s my new mantra.

Bring on 2014!

What are your hopes for 2014? Do you make resolutions at the beginning of a new year?

  1. I have 2 goals for 2014. First is to live a healthier lifestyle .. I want to eat smaller portions of healthier food – because I am sick of being lazy and lethargic, when I eat healthy I feel GOOD and energetic. My second goal is to be more organized .. I need some serious organization in my life .. one day at a time !

  2. I like that idea of just growing, and basically living as a ‘resolution’… That also pretty much sums up my expectations for 2014! Change 🙂

That is a great mantra 🙂 Positive people make me feel good 🙂

    • when you reach a certain age you start to realize the benefits of surrounding yourself with postitive people. I spent a lot of time with negatitvity in my younger years that I just don’t have to anymore.

  4. LOVE this! I don’t like resolutions either, but I do set goals and then I evaluate them at the end of the year to see how I did. There’s really no failure that way, just differing levels of progress towards completing my goal. 🙂

  5. Love it! I don’t make resolutions because, in the past, I never kept them. I just try to make the new year a better year than the past and focus on being positive and hopeful for what the next year will bring 🙂

  6. Excellent quote and a great goal. My goal is growth. My word is growth. I think this will reflect my entire year and aim for it to be philosophically all about growth.

  7. I always make resolutions. I like goals. But, usually I have an ongoing TO DO list 🙂

  8. Awesome. I love this. I don’t believe in making lofty resolutions, just embracing awesomeness in all its forms; people, experiences and memories. Wishing you an awesome 2014

  9. What a great quote to guide you in 2014. I want to go on more adventures too this year!

  10. I think I need to reread this every day.
