Have a Blast with BOOMco!

I really wanted summer to go out with a #BANG for my oldest. So when Jen from Mom vs The Boys asked if I was interested in reviewing Mattel’s newest line called BOOMco of course I said yes. We were sent a box full or various products so we could host a fun tournament.

Guns of any type have always been a touchy subject in our house. It was a constant struggle with my oldest as he just could not understand why all his friends were playing with them and I was being a big old meany. He is 8 and I found this year for his birthday alone from his friends he received two different Nerf guns. My husband and myself talked it over and figured he was mature enough to keep them as long as he would follow some simple rules. Before the tournament was to begin these are the rules we put in place.

1) No shooting the bullets from the waste up

2) It was to be discussed prior if everyone was ok having the bullets being fired at them

3) You were not allow to shot the bullets from close up

4) If a person said STOP or NO you were to leave the person be.

I had two very excited kids to get their hands on the guns because well they were new. I will be honest I was really curious about the BOOMco line because they were not your typical darts. These darts were made with special Smart Stick Technology. Meaning that they would only stick to Smart Stick Targets and Shields. The targets were fun and easy to use. the kids loved taking aim and practising their accuracy. The targets had values on them like a dart board. this of course made it more fun as we could keep score and add another level or competitiveness.

The kids really found that the darts went far. My 8 year old said that he thinks it is because they are plastic and not foam like the darts he is use to. I found the BOOMco darts to easily be blown around when outside and it made it difficult when shooting at targets. With the bullets being fast I found they also stung a bit when they hit the skin. Both kids agreed that they would not like to shoot each other but would prefer to use the targets. I happily agreed.

We spent the afternoon testing out The Rapid Madness and The Clipfire. I loved that both guns took the same bullets so there was no worries about getting things mixed up or grabbing the wrong bullet etc.

Here are some further details about both guns:

The Rapid Madness:

  • Ultimate rapid-fire blasting!
  • Removable, transforming blaster shields!
  • 30 Smart Stick darts and 20-dart clip
  • Smart Stick™ target included

The Clipfire:

  • Portable & concealable for stealth play!
  • Cool collapsible handle!
  • Smart Stick™ target included

I really enjoyed the time with the kids out in the yard. it was nice that we were not inside and I wasn’t having to wrestle my oldest off the TV. He was the one rushing and getting me out of the house so we could try the fantastic BOOMco products. Like I had mentioned the bullets do sting a little so I would recommend eye protection and also discussing it in detail with all the kids involved and setting clear limits and rules. Be sure to check out the Demo Videos to see what the fun is all about.

  1. Looks like fun! My kids are still too young for these kinds of toys, but I’ve always wondered how I might deal with the whole fake gun thing. I like your rules!

  2. This is so wonderful for hand-eye coordination! My husband wants to get my little guy something like this, but he’s two. Maybe in another year. Target practice sure is fun though 🙂

  3. WOW! That looks so cool! My boys would get a huge kick out of it! The only problem is the wouldn’t be very good shots! lol!! I’ll have to look into this for Christmas!

  4. Looks like a lot of fun! I know a few little boys who’d love this toy… 🙂 I like your rules too – great to teach them about safety and responsibility while they’re having fun. Thanks for sharing!

  5. I totally have the same thought and apprehension when it comes to kids and guns of any kind, but I think you handled it well! That said this looks like it was a lot of fun!
