Looking for a fun red and white treat for the kids on Canada Day? This Jell-O Swirl Ice Cream is so quick and easy, you’ll be amazed!
A few weeks back I saw my friend Elizabeth from Life Love Liz, post a fun a fruity recipe for Jell-O Swirl Ice Cream.
I had never made my own ice cream before and I was super intrigued! It sounded so easy and looked like something the boys would really enjoy both making and eating, I knew we were destined to try it! With Canada Day right around the corner, I was inspired to make a patriotic Red and White version to celebrate the holiday!
JELL-O SWIRL ICE CREAM for a CANADA DAY Dessert
INGREDIENTS
2 cup Heavy Cream
14 oz Sweetened Condensed Milk
1 small box Raspberry Jell-O
1 small box Cherry Jell-O
Red and White Maple Leaf Quins (optional)
DIRECTIONS
Whip heavy cream until stiff peaks form.
Beat in condensed milk until well blended.
Spread about 1/5 of cream mixture in loaf pan.
Sprinkle a layer of raspberry gelatin powder.
Top with another 1/5 of cream mixture.
Sprinkle a layer of cherry gelatin powder.
Top with another 1/5 of cream mixture.
Sprinkle a layer of raspberry gelatin powder.
Top with another 1/5 of cream mixture.
Sprinkle a layer of cherry gelatin powder.
Top with remaining of cream mixture.
Cover with foil and place in freezer for at least 5 hours.
Scoop into bowls and top with patriotic red and white maple leaf quins.
1/5 is not a lot, you’ll only need a very thin layer, and don’t worry, you can’t really mess this up. I ended up with only 4 layers of the cream and 3 of the powder and it still worked out to be a good ratio. I sprinkle enough to cover the cream layer, not too think and always have powder left over. If you don’t have the quins, whipped cream and strawberries would make a tasty option as well, and still perfectly red and white!
Jell-O Swirl Ice Cream, is so quick and easy, it takes just minutes to make and it’s really fun for the kids to help out. Try out other fun flavours, Liz used lime and orange for her recipe, the options are endless!
Happy Canada Day from our family to yours!
