When I was 18, I took my first over seas trip to Australia. It wasn’t just any holiday though, it was an exchange program with students from all of the world and I was soooo incredibly proud to be representing our True North Strong & Free!! I remember carefully packing my red and white Canadian t-shirt for the trip, excited at the opportunity to show off my country as much as possible. I ended up wearing it so much that you can spot it in almost all of my post trip photos, that shirt got a lot of use and has a lot of fond memories. I remember washing it frequently so it would look good for my next event.
Now just imagine that, that event was the Pan Am Games! Imagine hundreds of thousands of people seeing me in that shirt worldwide as the event was viewed on television. Imagine not just still photos from my personal camera to capture my image, but close up interviews being video taped for tv segments and advertisers. Knowing how concerned I was about putting my best face forward during my exchange visit and the pride I felt when I placed that Canadian shirt over my head, I can just imagine how important it is to athletes when they earn the right to wear their countries uniform for to compete on the worlds stage.

“Sports and laundry have always had a natural connection; whether it’s getting your uniform ready for the big game or taking care of the dirty aftermath, we understand that Canadians depend on their laundry appliances to perform for them,”said Gina Flinton, Senior Brand Manager at Whirlpool Canada, “This is why we are committed to providing the athletes with washers and dryers that can handle the toughest jobs throughout the Games.”
As the Official Appliance and Athlete Laundry Services Supplier for the Games this summer, Maytag® will furnish all athlete residences in the CIBC Pan Am/Parapan Am Athletes’ Village with over 400 washers and dryers!!! That’s a lot of laundry! More than 7500 athletes will depend on Maytag® appliances to perform so their uniforms are ready when it’s time to compete!
Not only are they providing the athletes village with laundry services, but Maytag® is proudly sponsoring Canadian triathletes Paula Findlay and Kyle Jones, along with Canadian Women’s Baseball player Vanessa Riopel as they prepare to compete in the Toronto 2015 Pan Am/Parapan Am Games. I can’t wait to see how they do! One thing we know for sure, they will be looking their best in Team Canada colours!
The Pan Am Torch has already been lit and the 41 day relay has begun! The torch will pass through 130 communities before it makes its final stop on July 10, 2015, at the Opening Ceremony of the TORONTO 2015 Pan Am Games! The althletes will be pulling out all the stops as they train hard in the final days before competition. And we all know that blood, sweat and tears = a lot of laundry!
Canadians from coast to coast can share in the excitement leading up to the Toronto 2015 Games, and stay up-to-date with the athletes by visiting the Maytag® Performance Counts website Facebook page or the Maytag® Twitter page

Maytag appliances will definitely be able to keep up!
That’s really great of them!
Way to Maytag! 400 washers and dryers that’s super generous!! And I’m sure everyone will be so grateful! Good luck to all the athletes… and GO CANADA!!
yay! Go Canada Go!! Can’t wait!
Wow, that is a lot of laundry – I actually never thought about that before. Awesome of Maytag to play a part in this!
So true that sports and laundry go together!!! My mom had Maytag machines growing up (I’m sure they are still running) and when I bought my first machines, they were Maytags too. I love my washing machines!!! 🙂 Thanks for sharing this.
It’s funny how many brands I use now just because that’s what my mom always used!
You can’t have one without the other! Especially with my little guy — I’m pretty sure he looks for excuses to slide around during t-ball 🙂
my middle guy is the same at soccer! which isn’t bad in a uniform but at recess in his jeans? yeah, grass stains suck
I never even thought of the laundry!! Of course there will be laundry. I am cringing remembering hubby coming home with 20-something hockey jersey to be washed that were game worn by 16 to 20 year old boys!
Love that they are sponsoring some deserving athletes!
oh that grossing me out just thinking about it!
LOL I kicked him -and his stinky jerseys- to the laundromat!
This is awesome! I love when brands step up and pitch in to the community! Wonder if I can drop my laundry off…
lol cute!
We’ve got the boating events happening on the canal minutes from my door…looking forward to watching a few races!
Way to go Maytag! They’ll do the job, good machines and very generous of Maytag, too with the sponsorship. Go Canada Go!!
